Ideas for Non-gendered Wedding Party Terms

Jen, on January 17, 2021 at 5:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 15

Hi everyone.

I have been racking my brain for the last few days on this idea. I am trying to find a non-gendered way to refer to wedding party members. We have mixed genders on both sides. I've been looking online and I can't seem to find anything that fits.

I personally hate the term attendants because I feel like it has the connotation that they are serving/waiting on you. These are people that are really special to us, not people expected to work for us.

I was wondering if you anyone had any ideas for gender neutral terms for wedding party roles. I want there to be some way to distinguish the people standing with me and those standing with my partner. I don't want bride's person, groom's person, etc. though.

Thank you all in advance for your help. I get it's not a huge deal what the terminology. It just really matters to me so I would love any and all suggestions.

Can you just refer to them as the wedding party?

Wedding party would be the best suggestion. Doesn’t give gender...

Is there someone in the wedding party who is non-binary? If not, I don’t see why you couldn’t just use bridesmaid, brides-man, groomsman/grooms-woman, and wedding party for the collective party.

I strongly dislike “maid” so while I’m not going full on gender neutral, I’ve chosen “Best Woman” (I considered “Best Person”) & “Bridesmates.” My partner is doing “Best Man” & “Groomsmen,” but we agreed to call the whole group the wedding party or I Do Crew (which I think is cute). I’m trying to remove gendered language from all the wedding stuff for us, because I just don’t like it...we don’t have any non-binary members of our wedding party.

Thank you everyone for the ideas. We ended up settling on the entourage. I appreciate all your suggestions.
