Ideas for Indoor Wedding Reception Activities/Games

Gary, on July 25, 2014 at 10:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

Trying to think of some unique, fun, and creative games/activities to get guests involved with at our wedding reception. Ideas other than ring toss, bean bag toss, jenga, etc....

Reception is going to be indoors. We already have a step and repeat/photo booth, "get to know us" game, an "I spy" card for people to fill out and take photos. We want to have more than just dancing. What fun and cool ideas have you either seen at others' weddings, or done at your own??

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

It sounds like you already have lots going on. Don't plan too much or it will just go to waste. At a reception people mostly just want to eat and talk with friends and family they haven't seen in a while. Just have 2 or 3 activities, which you already have, to fill any voids.

    Additional comment:

I was at my friend's wedding a few weeks ago and while it was under a large tent, they had lots of activities prepared to go along with the dancing, but all that was really used was the photo booth. People either sat around talking or eating, or dancing or went to the photo booth. Nothing more was needed. Having friends and family to socialize with was entertainment enough for most of the guests there.

That already sounds like enough - you want your guests to have time to talk and mingle, not jump from one activity to another.

Most people just want to eat, drink, and party! Smiley smile

I agree! I think you have enough as well. We don't have a photobooth, etc, but we do have advice cards as part of our guest book. They have little writing prompts, like "what is your favourite wedding memory from today", etc. They will be placed with pens at the tables and people can fill them out if they want to, and I'll be keeping them afterwards as a keepsake.

If it does not rain (I hope it doesn't I will be super pissed if it rains) we will have "cornhole" in the side yard and a self-serve smore bar. I know some people do ladder ball, bocce, croquet, etc. but I do not play these games myself so I have no idea why anyone at a wedding would. Cornhole is a Midwest staple that everyone plays at BBQ's and at get-togethers so I thought it would be fun for the guests.

Sounds like you have a ton of stuff already Smiley smile We were recently at a wedding thought were each table had cards for guests to list there marriage advice as well as a blank popsicle stick. They were to each write a date night idea on the stick and each table was given a dollar amount for said date. They were all put into a decorated mason jar that corresponded with the dollar amount given. Example would be a few tables were told to come up with free dates: some said things like go star gazing together, take a walk together at sunset, etc. It was really cute and they'll have plenty of ideas to last them. Smiley smile

I'd skip games and activities for an indoor reception (for the most part outdoor ones as well) It sounds a little overwhelming IMO. Have good food, music, drinks (alcoholic or not) and dancing. Adults can entertain themselves without being told to play games.

You'll never guess what we decided for my wedding. We are hanging some really stunning decorations from ceiling fans as the main focus. They are very long and spin around the room and it looks amazing. We ended up rigging gifts to it, and instead of throwing the flower we made the girls grab it from the fan. It was hilarious and I highly recommend it. http://www.jfelectricalcontractors.com
