Ideas for Hawaiian Themed Wedding

Hannah, on July 13, 2020 at 5:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hello!
My and my fiancé have been engaged for a almost year now. Our wedding date is June 5, 2021 of next year. We’ve played with color schemes for the past year but now we have only 11 months we figured we need to start planning!
Our original thought was powder blue and blush, like a cotton candy wedding, however one day we were at a store and saw cheesy Hawaiian and summer decor and goods and joked around with the thought of having a Hawaiian/Tropical themed wedding and going on our honeymoon there. We are both college students and pretty goofy. The thought of the “picture perfect wedding” hasn’t been on my mind because to marry him is all I want. And I love the thought of everyone relaxing and having fun with a cheesy theme!
So if you have any ideas let me know please! We’ll have the ceremony outside and the reception inside.

Hello! We did the same thing! My wife loves Hawaii so our wedding was Hawaiian themed and we went to the Big Island for our honeymoon. I have as many tips on those two things as you could ask for (feel free to message me). My wife's ring has a red ruby and mine has a green sapphire so those were automatically our colors. I wore a cream colored dress, hers was red. She wore red tennis shoes underneath, I wore green. We wanted to keep things simple so we had an outdoor wedding and didn't do a wedding party aside from one friend walking our dog down the aisle and a special 5 year old in a Hawaiian summer dress (green and cream) bringing a votive candle to the front we would light during the ceremony. All our flowers were fake as we want hibiscus and plumeria. A woman on Etsy made our bouquets, cake topper, and sent us extra hibiscus flowers. We ordered extra plumeria on Amazon. Our centerpieces were a shallow bowl filled with black lava rock (originally for fire pits) then water. On top, we floated some of the fake flowers and had fake Hawaiian leaves underneath the bowl. We did one small 6 inch cutting cake then sheet cakes from Costco with leis on them for our guests. We bought plastic cups and plates and had a BBQ buffet for dinner. I do graphic design so I designed our invites, RSVP cards, and seating chart to match. We also had cheap paper photo props on sticks for people to take pictures with that they enjoyed and we rented lawn games that people really got into as well.

If you have any questions on anything (we love the Big Island), I'm happy to help.

Wow, your decor turned out stunning! Those bouquets are fake? Love the colors and tropical vibe. Do you have a link to more wedding pics?

I do! I sent you the link in a message to the full set of photos. The Etsy seller does other tropical bouquets as well. These happened to match exactly with what we wanted. I forgot to mention she did boutonnieres and corsages as well.

These are some of the prettiest faux bouquets I’ve seen. I quickly looked at some pics (at work right now). Love of the ones of you & your wife in the garden and dancing. Your dresses complemented each other so beautifully! ♥️ 🤍

One of my cousins had a Hawaiian themed anniversary party a few years ago that was awesome. They had a local Hawaiian restaurant cater dinner (teriyaki beef, fried rice, coconut shrimp, mac salad, pineapple palm tree fruit platter, etc) with plenty leftover for guests to take home for midnight snack. Cake was pina colada decorated with tropical flowers. Favors were coconut Hershey Kisses (from candywarehouse.com ) in a bowl at the guestbook table. Invitations matched the theme as well.

They didn't have centerpieces but that was as far as the theme went.
