Ideas for entertaining the groom & groomsmen before ceremony

Kalla, on April 8, 2018 at 6:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

I'm making a wedding timeline for my FH and his groomsmen. They have a large amount of free time at one point (2 - 3 hours) while we are getting our hair and makeup done, and I was trying to come up with fun ideas & activities that they could do in their room to pass the time. FH is going to be super nervous as he hates getting in front of people, so I know that if he's just sitting there doing nothing for 2 hours he's likely going to get sick. Ha!

So far I have playing poker and the Nintendo Switch as something to pass the time. They'll have drinks as well but I'm still thinking they need some other options.

I'm not sure where they will be at, but our groomsmen are going to play yard games, corn hole, horse shoes, etc. They are also planning on grilling lunch and getting hair cuts before the 6p ceremony

That sounds so fun! Alas, the venue is indoors & the wedding is in December, so it'll likely be cold.

If they can't golf due to the season, I would suggest something like bowling to burn off some energy. They can also just sleep in and go out for brunch. Just because the BM's have to get up early so they can all be together, doesn't mean the men need to do the same.

Laser Tag if Golf isn't an option, maybe Arcade. Bowling was mentioned. Go see an Action Movie or any kind really. Go see a sporting event if ones going on that day. Give them a scavenger hunt.

I’ve been worried about my FH in the time before the wedding. I don’t want him to feel like he is totally idle because then they will likely start drinking 😂😂 and I don’t want him stumbling down the isle 😳. He hates golf, I’m thinking maybe a chartered fishing trip for a couple hours (will be in Key West).

Ha! Yes, I agree. I can see my FH being incapacitated because of such a long period of downtime. A chartered fishing trip would be so much fun! Our venue is located in a small town in the mountains, so no pretty water.

We are going to Islamorada in the FL Keys for our honeymoon, though! Can't wait!

My FH and his guys are going to shoot clays in the morning until they need to get ready. They could play cards too.

They’re adults, they can entertain themselves, you don’t need to assign activities.
My H and his groomsmen had some beer and pizza while they were hanging out beforehand.

If they are fans, perhaps they would like to just kick back and watch football or basketball on TV.

Our venue has a "grooms room" with an air hockey table and an arcade version of Mortal Kombat (seriously.) I think the idea of video games is awesome, or even some card games like Cards Against Humanity.

Nothing bothers my FH more than being told he has to be somewhere ‘to get ready’ at a certain time and then sit around for three hours. WHY do they have to be somewhere so early when they’re literally just putting on a suit? Let them sleep in. Grab lunch. Then meet wherever.

My husband went to lunch with his friends and then he came back to the hotel and took a power nap before his buddies and the photographer showed up to get ready.

maybe we are just old, but he said the nap was key to staying up all night.

the other thing he did during that time was a few chores like getting our hotel room organized and then having housekeeping come so that it would be clean when we got home after the reception. So he was busy!

I suspect my FH and his party will spend the morning swimming/surfing and probably play some cricket down on the beach. Or watching sport and just hanging out. Nothing scheduled

My FH and his friends are grown men. I trust them to figure out how to spend their morning.

Well, my FH is not your FH and he has clearly stated that he would like to be present at the venue as earliest as possible. So they don't HAVE to be anywhere so early - that was his decision that he made. I just thought I would be kind and help him figure out some ways to pass the time.
