Ideas for a small(30 person) wedding possibly in upstate ny or surrounding area

Alix, on September 9, 2015 at 12:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

We both live in brooklyn and are having a small simple wedding, and we definitely want it OUTSIDE the city. We are thinking of maybe a bed and breakfast? We are working with a low budget ($5,000 or less). Is this even possible? I just want something thAt is outdoors with lots of greenery. Preferably one location for ceremony and reception. Im so lost ahhhh

I rented a beach house. You could rent a cabin.

There are also a ton of small wineries in the Finger Lakes region if that's something you'd be interested in. I'm not sure about price but I would guess some of them might have an outdoor space or a room that you could rent. Definitely cheaper than NYC!

We're having ours at a b&b in Connecticut. The grounds are absolutely stunning! One thing to make sure, check that their reception area is in a good spot on the property, separate from the rooms. Ours is, so we weren't required to rent rooms. Some are so small, they require you to rent the entire place out. Check bedandbreakfast.com. Go through each website of each inn. You will eventually find one. I spent weeks, looking for the right one that didn't break the bank. The rental fee is low, and it will be $68/plate. Our guest list is sitting at 46 right now. We are going to be well under $5000 by the time all is said and done.

So many beautiful wineries up there!!!! If you have a little money to put towards a nice meal, try Belhurst Castle. But there are tons of other options around the finger lakes!

Bonjour! There are plenty of cool little places to choose from!

    Try;

The Wooden Duck, in Andover NJ (B&B)

Main Street Manor in Flemington NJ (B&B)

Mohawk House in Sparta, NJ (cool restaurant)

    Valley Crest Farms (organic farm)

Ninety Acres at Natirar (my personal fave; ask for Megan)******

Olde Mill Inn (my other personal fave; ask for Marion or Lindsay)******

    Frelingheyen Arboretum (Killer gardens)

Schooley's Mountain (Part of the Morris County Park System)

Kip Castle in Verona (Public park, part of the Passaic County Park System)

Ours was just over the border into southern VT from NY and would be do able for that budget with that guest list! The Arlington Inn in Arlington VT. Food & drinks was just under 5k for 50 people, so if you cut the number to 30 you could *probably* squeeze everything into that budget. And - Elizabeth did a great job!

Well, I don't have any specific NY suggestions, but I did want to tell you it's possible within your budget! We are aiming for $3000 or less for a little less than 20 people. I definitely know it can be done if you are willing to prioritize what matters most for you. For us, the food and photography was our two big things. We are having ours at a historic hotel and the prices are great. I am sure you could find similar at a bed and breakfast or something like that. You could also look at unique venues, as they may not charge as much as traditional venues (small art galleries, museums, etc). Or you could look at any small gardens around that might have indoor spaces.

Good luck in finding something! I am certain you'll find what you're looking for.

It was possible for me... But then again I live in Kentucky--much less expensive than NY. We spent around 1,2000 fora 50 person backyard reception and private certiny at a local historic park ($50 rental)
