Ice Cream Sundae Bar? Help!

AlyssaWynne, on September 27, 2017 at 7:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Neither FH or I especially like cake, so we are looking into alternative desserts. One idea that caught our eye was doing some kind of a make your own sundae type thing.

Has anybody done this before? How did it go? What did you do to pull it off?

Thanks!

We booked an ice cream truck for a few hours after the ceremony. They offered snow cones, ice cream, sundaes and so much stuff. I hope it works out in your favor.

I've seen a couple of brides do that on here and it's so stinkin cute . Dessert is dessert as long as it tastes good!

My friend did this for their wedding, though they also had cake for anyone who wanted cake. They just picked a couple basic flavors of ice cream and then tons of topping options in little serving dishes on a table.

We are not big fans of cake either, so we had a small round to cut for pictures and then did brownies and ice cream (kinda like a hot fudge cake) for our dessert. It was served by our catering staff. It was a huge hit, and we had maybe 5 brownies leftover (after ordering 200 for 145 people!).

We thought about doing this but probably will not. I think it's a good option.

My mom's early opinion was to do a chocolate fountain, but then we heard horror stories of little kids getting chocolate everywhere (we are having a few kids there), and I wasn't crazy about the idea to begin with. I think we'll have a Viennese table, along with the wedding cake.

I've seen this done before! They did it buffet style by putting ice cream in chaffing dishes over ice, with bowls of other toppings on the rest of the table. If you're doing buffet dinner, your caterer may be able to flip the table for dessert for you.

It was really fun and everyone loved it! You just can't take your time with it. Even with the ice cream on ice, it will still get soft/ melt if it takes too long to get to everyone.

We are doing a pie bar for dessert (apple, pumpkin, pecan, a berry, and a cream) and then doing a 10PM S'Mores bar as well!

BUT if it were a wedding in a warmer season, I would be 100% behind an ice cream bar, and have been to places where it happened. Some you choose and have someone scoop the ice cream for you, and others just have bowls of chocolate and vanilla ice cream out. A few liquid toppings, a few candy toppings, and voila!

Glad to hear that the sundae bars that have been seen have been well received! Now to figure out execution...

I would have someone from catering help scoop the ice cream into containers, and keep stocking the toppings.

Check on Pinterest for ideas. Sundae parties are common so there might be good ideas.

We are doing an ice cream bar. My brother is making us a vintage looking cart. We're getting all the toppings and everyone will use their favors (coffee mugs).

Attended a great wedding with an ice cream sundae bar (no cake, or other desserts). The wait staff scooped the ice cream (chocolate or vanilla) and then guests added their choice of toppings. Personally, I like cake, but it was good!

If you don't want to do an Ice Cream truck speak with your caterer about having and Ice Cream bar. this can be done. if you don't want a cake, try cupcakes or petite fours. these are great options for having Ice cream

We're doing this at the afterparty! We have a separate vendor for it.

I'd be ALL about this as a guest.

Talk to your caterer. I've planned events at venues that usually don't do sundaes, but were willing to accommodate the request (sorority tradition).
