@skye if you keep ice cream in a fridge it will melt. It needs to be in a you know, freezer.

I'm aware it's a freezer attached to the Refrigerator. They are big side by side that you buy from like Home Depot.

We're also doing an ice cream bar! We were originally planning on DIY, but we decided to hire a local ice cream shop to do it instead. Like @Countrybride121117, it'll be a couple hundred dollars but I know it'll be worth it to have them set it up and run it. Plus their ice cream is delicious Smiley smile

I think the main concerns are melting and serving the ice cream. Are you going to have someone scoop it? My mom pointed out that this could easily get messy and take a long time if people are doing it themselves. The other key will be figuring out a way to keep it cold. I think I saw some blogs outlining how to make dry ice work, but I decided pretty quickly it was too much of a hassle for us.

What is even happening in this thread? How can you buy ice cream for $.50?

Could you find a little bit more budget...

I hate hate cheap ice cream. If you get quality real cream ice cream an ice cream bar sounds like a great idea especially since you already have a staff memeber to serve it.

I'd do at least like Ben and Jerrys level ice cream. If not higher quality than that.

It proabably cost you another $100-$150 but that's worth it in my book

    Or just skip it.

Any ice cream that you can buy in a tub for $.50 sounds like ice cream I definitely don't want to eat.

My sister had an ice cream bar at her reception. The ice cream was scooped in the back by the caterers and put into individual bowls. They brought the bowls out right before the dj announced the ice cream bar. People lined up, they were handed a bowl and then the toppings were all self serve in bowls like a candy bar would be.

Please tell me where to get a tub of ice cream for 50 cents.

Eta: Nevermind I just saw you were using coupons. Also she served only vanilla.

Honestly, just skip it. If you're only willing to spend $25 on, it's not even worth your time.

I feel like people won't miss it if it's not there, but people would be disappointed if it wasn't done properly and deliciously.

Seems like more of a hassle than it's worth.

And I don't understand how a tub of ice cream can be 50 cents...

    She's probably an Extreme Couponer™?

That image of all of those balls of ice cream is lovely. And I don't even really like ice cream.

I just came to this thread to say WWLaura's idea is genius and I plan on stealing it.

    Not for my wedding though.

Yes, not worth the pain and hassle.

She sound like one of those extreme couponers. The ones who buy dog food because its on sale and they have a coupon, but don't have a dog.

My thought is she is one of those extreme couponers. And I agree with @Angela, as usual.

I actually don't doubt that the ice cream is 50 cents, after watching so many episodes of Extreme Couponing on TLC. I would be more concerned with it melting for sure, make that plan your #1 priority.

    Love WWLaura's idea, seriously amazing!

I provided ice cream and my caterer was nice enough to store it and provide one of their staff to serve it, and they didn't charge me, so perhaps speak to yours and see if and how they might be able to help out. They may have done something like this before, or they may have rules against outside foods - best to ask.
