Ice Breakers Needed for Families to Meet

Elizabeth, on July 26, 2019 at 5:28 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 12
FH's family and mine are meeting for the first time the week we get married. We're getting married in my home state and live on the other side of the country. I'm from NY, we live in TX. We've met and spend time with each other's families, mostly around holidays since we're spread around the country. Anywho, what are some ice breakers or things you did when yours and your spouse's family met each other for the first time?

My fiances parents met mine about 9 months after we started dating. His parents came to my parent's business.
They saw each other again almost 2 years later while we were house hunting. That was an ice breaker. I guess.

Hey Elizabeth!! How exciting for your two families to be meeting for the first time! What are you planning on doing for this get-together? Will you be doing an activity, going to dinner or hanging out at home?

Ours met for the first time after we got engaged, been dating for 8.5 years. We just all went to dinner. I sent out invitations and everything and called it our Engagement Dinner Celebration. It went well. Our families are very different but everyone talked. We didn't really need games or anything.

No idea, yet, we'll see who's arriving when since everyone is on different flights and arriving at different times!

Have a night before “gathering” an intimate cookout or bonfire where the setting is more relaxed!

Thank you for the idea! Some of our guests are flying in the day before our ceremony and reception; others prior to. We're not making any pre-wedding events mandatory-- we understand that everyone has work, family, and life responsibilities. We'll develop fun activities when we know what our guests travel plans are so that no one feels like they need to attend everything if they are unable to.

Possibly winging it, lol. We're assembling favors one evening, having a tea ceremony with my family and FH, and other activities are weather dependent. We're looking for activities for adults, younger kids, and a teenager. The little ones will enjoy the zoo, a playground, etc. It may be a bit too early for area Halloween events, however, it should be the start of apple picking season!

Our families live across several states and in different parts of the country. Everyone is meeting the day before or day of the wedding!
