I’m quite disappointed in my cake as it looks nothing like what I showed my baker. It reminds me of a Pinterest fail article and I’m not quite sure how to gracefully tell my baker that I was disappointed. I wanted a 3 tier version of a cake that I saw that originally had 6 tiers. I expressed that I liked how the gold sprinkles faded as you go from top to bottom and somehow I ended up with two obviously different kinds of sprinkles and who knows what happened to the bottom tier’s sprinkles. Also the bottom tier was the same diameter as the middle tier. Although it was somewhat of a discounted cake compared to other bakers, it still wasn’t cheap at $325 for 80 people. Suggestions?

I came up with 3 things to focus on for that day: that my husband shows up, the officiant shows up, and that the marriage certificate/license thing was there. I’m so glad I just focused on those three things. We ended up having to move the wedding inside because of the weather and somebody forgot to bring the jump broom in for the ceremony but somebody quickly found another broom that was clean and didn’t look too bad thankfully. I was determined to have a great wedding no matter what and in the end, I feel like it was wonderful despite the hiccups. Best wishes to you and hopefully this helps in your fear of something similar happening to you.

I'm so sorry! Definitely let her know, even if it's just an email.

You're not getting what you paid for. Work with the baker... That's their job

I'm sure this is an obvious question, but you already had your wedding right? Or this was just an example? On one hand if it was an example yay because you have time, if this was your wedding cake then I'm so sorry. While it doesn't look awful, it doesn't look like what you wanted. Plus I see a lack of skill and professional baking skills throughout. The tiers are off balance, the flowers look like an afterthought. Maybe send a kindly professionally worded email stating that you were unhappy. She needs honest feedback otherwise she will keep delivering the same subpar results to other brides because she's more affordable. I would post a review to her yelp page as well. People need to be prepared of the work they are going to receive. It's unfair to potentional customers if she's overselling her abilities.

I would also tell the vendor who recommended this baker to you. They should not keep vouching for them!

The bakery should have seen that this cake was unacceptable and re-made it. Or if they realized that they couldn't recreate the design, they should have told you.

I think this highlights that we should not just show bakers pictures but ask to see their work and show how they would do a certain technique. I bake and my fiance is a chef and neither of us could figure out how they did your example cake so I think your baker did it to the best of their ability which I agree didn't look the same but may habe been the next she could do.

Pinterest sets up false expectations for all things wedding!!!!

What happened to that bottom layer?!? Looks like she didn’t bring touch up sprinkles. I would ask for a partial refund.

I think they were trying to copy the example where whatever is gold was less heavy on the bottom.

There's a website called cakewrecks... This is worthy of submission. Be sure to include the baker's name to warn off others!

Yes, I had my wedding just under two weeks ago. We took our honeymoon right after so that’s why I’m just now dealing with it.

Wow that really isn't a match at all - and a really good example of a Pinterest fail - except I am guessing most fails are done by amateur people and not a professional baker. I would stop in and talk to them - you should get some of your money back.

She showed me some of her work which looked like it took more skill than what I was looking for so I wrongly assumed she could do what I was asking. I would be fine if it didn’t look exactly like the picture because nobody else is going to see that picture. But we she delivered was straight up ugly even if I didn’t have a picture to reference.

That cake looks like an amateur decorated it. Your cake should have been much closer in appearance to the inspiration. I would definitely leave honest reviews with pictures.

    Wow!
I can't believe she let you leave with it. She should have fixed it before you even picked it up.

I would do 2 things, first I would reach out to the baker and let them know how disappointed you were in the cake. Send it in an email so you have it documented. With those 2 pictures you posted. I would request a partial refund.
Second write a review for the baker! Tell them exactly what happened!
