i was disappointed in my cake, how do i tell my baker?

Cynamon, on April 27, 2018 at 11:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50
I’m quite disappointed in my cake as it looks nothing like what I showed my baker. It reminds me of a Pinterest fail article and I’m not quite sure how to gracefully tell my baker that I was disappointed. I wanted a 3 tier version of a cake that I saw that originally had 6 tiers. I expressed that I liked how the gold sprinkles faded as you go from top to bottom and somehow I ended up with two obviously different kinds of sprinkles and who knows what happened to the bottom tier’s sprinkles. Also the bottom tier was the same diameter as the middle tier. Although it was somewhat of a discounted cake compared to other bakers, it still wasn’t cheap at $325 for 80 people. Suggestions?

Be honest and let her know. I think if she wants more business she’ll have to listen she had to know it didn’t turn out the way it should’ve.

Absolutely!! So sorry this happened to you. Bring the photo if you need to, but it looks NOTHING like what you ordered. She needs to refund some money or do something to make up for this error. I pray my baker gets it right. Don't back down. You can still be nice yet tell them how very disappointed you were, and ARE. Best wishes!!

Tell her straight up. It can be easier if you write an email. That doesn’t look a thing like the inspiration picture. She should give you money back.

It's looks like she just took the top 3 tiers and made the cake instead of making a small version and a bad version at that. So sorry. But yes just tell her and let her know u r not happy.

I actually didn’t know which one was the one you wanted. I liked the cake. But not for 325. That’s insane for a cake you didn’t like!

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I would honestly just tell her, take the inspo picture, the picture of the actual cake and copy of the contract. Good luck!

Was this an actual professional baker in a shop? I wouldn't gracefully tell her anything. I would have flipped a freaking lid!!!

I would let the baker know. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Sadly, your experience is my biggest fear when ordering a cake!

As someone that makes cakes, that looks horrible. There's no symmetry either. Like the flowers aren't arranged well. The sprinkles aren't the correct shade and it looks like she forgot to fade them on the bottom and tried to take it off?

Definitely laughed when you said Pinterest fail because you’re completely right. That cake looks nothing like what you wanted it to. And that bottom layer...yikes!! Absolutely let her know

You need to be honest with the baker, you paid for their service and they didn't deliver.

Wow. That stinks this happened to you! Definitely say something to your baker, especially if this is their profession, they need to know that this cake isn’t even close to what you wanted except for having 3 tiers and glitter.

She came recommended by another vendor that I was using who is really good at what she does so I went off of that. The cake tasted good fortunately and it showed up on time so that’s the only positive I can share.
