I promise to dance if you play _____

Emma, on April 6, 2014 at 11:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

Hello! I would really like to put I promise to dance if you play _____ on my RSVP card. Is there a way to word this to make it be known that all songs requested may not be played? Or should I just not worry about that? Obviously we are going to make every effort but we have to work with the DJ. Smiley smile

To those of you who have put something similar to this on your RSVP, do you have any words of advise to make sure this goes over successfully? Or is it more work than what it's worth? Thanks!

Someone posted something similar a couple weeks ago, and Wendy's (a professional DJ) response was really good:

"We did a wedding recently where the bride had everyone write a song request on the RSVP. She said that out of 100 RSVPs, only 15 songs were appropriate to play and she didn't even bother to give them to us. Some were not danceable, some had curse words, some were too explicit, some were just weird, some wrote in a bad song as a joke, etc. We had people asking us to play their requests and we had to tell them that we couldn't play them because they were inappropriate or were songs the bride and groom didn't want to hear. So, to keep that from happening, word it like this,"What song will get you on the dance floor at a wedding?" At least tells the guest to make sure it's a danceable song that is appropriate for a wedding and it doesn't make any promises that it will be played."

I think "I promise to dance if you play......" is sort of the similar idea.

    I plan on mine saying:

    "WANNA DANCE?

List a song you'd like to hear at our reception!"

I think that conveys that it MIGHT be played, or it might not.

I think its too much work.. let the DJ?MC read the crowd and play appropriate songs to play.. thats what you are paying them for.. they know what they are doing...

My sisters would request all kinds of gangster rap crap and i would be pissed.. i am also telling my dj NOT to take requests from guests if he thinks it is going to shock or insult older guests... i have people from other countries who would be so uncomfortable if you played curse songs... Its a wedding not a club...
