Have you thought about contacting your hotel in Maui and asking would it be possible for them to have a special surprise waiting for him in your room when you arrived? That would be a total surprise for him and he would also get it on his actual birthday. You could ask would it be possible to have Happy Birthday balloons, a special bottle of Champagne or even a small birthday cake waiting for your arrival.
