So I had the hardest time finding a dress and it was bc I was veering away from form-fitting. When you are curvy or pear-shaped, dresses that are poofy or a-line sometimes tend to make your hips bigger looking and have you come off as more wide. so mermaid was actually a good choice for your body type. I agree, the sample sizes are always super tiny, so once you get the dress in your size it will fit you like a glove. My dress is sheath and I carry most of my weight in my belly/hips. I definitely plan on getting some spanx just so I can feel more comfortable on the day of. The detail on the dress is stunning--you're going to look beautiful on your big day!!

I felt the same way about my dress! Did it make me feel special? Yes! Did it flatter my body type? Eh...
If you have a flexible return policy, you could consider another round of shopping. If not, just hold onto that special feeling you got when you tried it on! I'm trying to figure out flattering poses and angles to request from my photographer.

Actual mermaid dresses, which keep tapering down below the knees, then suddenly flare out, likely would not flatter your figure, making your middle look wide with smaller top and bottom. This dress has a Bell skirt, that starts to flare out after your thighs have begun to look smaller, but still well above the knee. An excellent choice for your figure. Great on you! Make sure that when you try on a petticoat of slip, or have one sewn to the bottom band of your bra for a smoothing seamless look from there through the hips to the top of the bell, that it flares at the right place. Or have the seamstress who fits it make one, easy as pie and cheap to make a netting petticoat with a long slip or half slip, to make sure it bells out in the right place. You can choose how much of a flare you want to balance your figure. Beware, a lot of places sell on type for mermaid and bell skirts, which never support the flare high enough to start mid thigh. Ask for the bell shape, only. I always think it best for people to try styles they never think will be good. Because so many women find they look great, flattering the curvy figure they have, once they try the right dress. You will be gorgeous on wedding day, no doubt about it!
