i need help wording something polite but stern!!

April, on July 20, 2023 at 11:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
My fiancé and I decided on having a dry/no alcohol and drug free wedding for multiple reasons but mainly because my fiancé is a recovering alcoholic as well as a portion of our guests. It’s unavoidable that someone will byob but I will like to say something about it on our website where the guests will rsvp but I have no idea how to word it politely but also stern. Thank you!!

Good for your husband for getting sober! Is this a common problem among your family/friends for sneaking in alcohol? From my experience with people that do sneak in the alcohol, usually the alcohol is just for themselves and not for the other guests. I would probably say something that people who are intoxicated or under the influence of drugs will be asked to leave, especially if they are causing a disruption.

Other than not providing alcohol at the wedding and leaving the likely suspects off the guest list altogether, there is no polite way to imply that any and all of your guests will be rude enough to sneak in alcohol or drugs or cause a disruption.

I think a better way to convey this message to anyone needing to hear it is one on one.

If you truly wish to post on your website I would personally say something like this,

"We are excited to have everyone here to support us and while we understand that this is a celebration we are kindly asking you to respect us and those around us by keeping the wedding a dry wedding."
