I need help including 5 young children in my ceremony!!!

Andrea, on May 18, 2011 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

My fiance has 3 kids under the age of 10 from a previous marriage and I have a 6 year old and we have 1 together. Total we have 4 boys and 1 girl (ages 8,7,6,5,19 months). We keep going back and fourth about what the kids can do in the wedding. We decided that his daughter will be the flower girl and we cant decide on a ring bearer because we have so many boys. He says the oldest should be but I dont agree because his son is the oldest and I just dont feel good about the fact that 2 of his kids have positions but neither of mine do, afterall its my day too. I really didnt want to have them as groomsmen because the brides maids are all adults and i think it will look strange at the alter. are there any other positions in which i can include the boys? also is it possible to have a flower girl and boy? please help!!!

I have 6 little girls and 3 boys. Here is my suggestion:

19 MO- honorary ring bearer. Next-youngest boy- ring bearer, Girl- FG, two Older boys train bearers.

Sounds like my wedding planning...I have read and looked at so many things as far as the right and wrong day to do things and it just comes down to "do it however you like" These days so many people are changing things. My fiance and I have 7 between the two of us. I am not for sure if my oldest two are coming so his two girls ages 12,13 are the flower girls, his son and daughter are going to be groomsman and bridesmaid, ages 16,17 and my daughter 15 will be a bridesmaid and if my boys can make it they will both walk with me down the aisle. You could have your boys both at your side as you walk then hand them to a family member...I hope it all works out the way you want! Good Luck!

Could the two older boys be your escorts? Have them walk in front of you? My minister suggested this for my wedding.

2 Escorts - could be your flowers girl escort.

    1 ring bearer

1 Maybe a bell ringer...I have seen that in some weddings

    1 Girl - Flower Girl

    1 Boy - Ring Bearer

1 Boy - (probably the oldest) Usher? He can hand out the wedding programs, the seating of guests aka make sure no guests sit where the families are sitting, etc

One of your children is 19 months old, perhaps the 19th month old and another child can walk down together holding hands.

Maybe have the youngest boy as the ring bearer and the older two carry a sign just before you come down the aisle like this one:

We have 5 children between us. We are't having a bridal party- we're using our children as the bridal party.

We managed to include 6 children 6yrs old and younger.

My mother walked down with my youngest neice (2 mos old).

Our youngest (17 mos) walked by himself to his daddy at the front of the church.

Our 2 yr old and 6 yr old walked with my bridesmaids.

Then my brother (the best man) walked down with his son (almost 2 yrs).

My 3 yr old neice was my flower girl.

Yes,it was a bit non-traditional,but we wanted to include all the children and it worked out really well this way.

The youngest ones stopped at the end of the aisle to sit with adults.

My cousin and his fiance had 2 small boys together. When they got married she decorated a wagon with flowers and lace in the wedding colors. The little one was in the wagon, the other pulled it down the aisle before the flower girl. Just pulled it down to the front pew where Granny/Papa were waiting. They were both "in" the wedding without having any responsibilities. It was SO cute!

Thank you all so much for your ideas! i was like completely clueless as to what to do with all the boys! im going to talk to my fiance but im pretty sure that im going to do his daughter as the flower girl, my 6 yr old and 19 month old as ring bearers and the two older boys as escorts or train bearers. i really love the idea with the "here comes the bride" sign. again thank you all sooooo much!

oh and by the way...im still open for suggestions so keep them coming!!!
