I have ring envy

I feel terrible. I know I should love my ring because he gave it to me and all, but I'm look at almost every other ring with envy. Because, I know he has no emotional attachment, I'm already thinking of doing an upgrade later down the line...I've only had it three months. Eeek. I picked out the...

Because, I know he has no emotional attachment, I'm already thinking of doing an upgrade later down the line...I've only had it three months. Eeek. I picked out the setting, but I wish it was bigger. I'm soooo shallow and horrible. I had to tell someone. Agh don't judge me! Maybe, now that I've "said it outloud" I'll get over it. =)

My advice would be to be happy with your current ring...for now. Your fiancé bought that ring with pride, as a sign of his love. I can see some guys seeing rejection of the ring as a rejection of them in some way, or a blow to their ego. If you truly are still unhappy with it in a year, upgrade it. You can use the diamonds from this ring in the new ring, kind of like an evolution of the ring growing in size mimicking an evolution of your love growing in size with time.

I, like others, picked my ring but didn't know he got this particular one until the proposal. My ring is very simple but I love it! Now I look at other women hands not out of envy but admiration. I have what I like and I guess they have what they like. But at the end of the day, what I like most is the man I'm going to spend the rest of my life with. He is my diamond, ruby, and pearl and the jewel of all jewels.

Make sure you choose a band that adds to your original design to give you something you’re comfortable with until he upgrades you 10/20 years down the road. I was lucky enough to choose my ring so that should help comparison feelings subside

I'm of the mindset that if you don't like the ring you are given, you should purchase your own. I didn't give mine the chance. I have very different taste and wanted an alexandrite ring from a very specific designer. I got mine and put it in a drawer and let him know that it was there for whenever he was ready (this was after we had some very serious results about getting married and he had "asked" but said he wanted to officially propose more romantically). If you want them to pay for the ring, you should appreciate what they can get you. Try not to worry about what others have. I know it can be difficult but there will always be a bigger ring to compare yours to. You will never be happy if you look at things like that. What's that old saying about only looking in your neighbors bowl to make sure they have enough rice? Smiley smile
