I GOT MY RING! do your finger swell?

Kitty Katy, on April 21, 2011 at 1:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

So I GOT MY RING Monday. And told my parents, that the engagment is back on, it went better then I thought and they still plan on paying for the wedding and my mom is still making my dress :-)

I have one little problem though, my finger swells up when I sleep and I have to take in the morning because it hurts(this upsets FS a little) Does anyone else have this problem? Or any advice?

Don't wear your ring to bed.

You may have to get it a half size bigger. I had that problem as well. and I went for a 5.5 to a 6 and its only lose on occasion because your fingers swell more then you think

Mine swell up when it is hot out. I don't wear it when I go to the gym. I'm too afraid to lose it. I've never slept with jewelry on-so I take it off at night. Not sure what helps swelling. A friend of mine told me I need to drink more water.

I do but i got it sized when it was swollen so it gets a little lose on me through the day instead of to tight.

Most people's fingers swell at night, so you should take it off before bed if it hurts. Also salt/sodium will do it too, I actually read on a jewelry site to avoid salt the day of & day before going to get your ring sized.

Mine swell when I have PMS (probably because I get terrible cravings for salty foods) and during the summer/when I'm hot. I can still get my rings off, but I have to tug at them a bit. If your ring is hurting you when your fingers swell, just have it sized up half a size. That way it'll fit year round still. Also, I've found that putting on moisturizer right before bed and right when I wake up helps during the day.

Yeah, you might need a bigger size. Even when my hand swells I still don't have a problem with it being too tight or uncomfortable.

My fingers swell at night, so I just take them off at night, and put them back on in the morning.

For the first four months after getting engaged I would wake up in terrible pain from my ring and take it off (lick finger and tug) in the middle of the night, it eventually quit doing that though. Diet can play a major role for sure.

My finger swelling story. FH thought I was a size 5 and I never wore rings, so I had no idea my finger size. After getting engaged, I got fitted and found out that I was a 3.5! I was so upset because they had to cut out a chunk of ring... money we can never get back. The jewler then asked " I have a personal question for you.... do you swell?" I had no idea what he was talking about, so I said no. Wrong answer Smiley sad Apparently I swell real bad. Day after getting the ring sized, i couldn't get it off my finger. I woke up crying and hysterical. I think it was the combination of feeling bad about the resizing and then it being wrong. Well the jewler said not to resize it and that its better to be too tight. I told him I wanted to feel comfortable. So we went up a quarter of a size. 3.75. In the morning its perfect and it was perfect all throughout summer. During the winter, its a pain in the butt because it spins and it very loose. Keeping your hands not chapped (lotion) helps.

I wake up every morning and my hands are swollen, but not to the point of hurting my finger. I agree that salt has a lot to do with swelling, so drink some water before going to bed at night, that seems to work for me.

I swell when I'm overheated. My ring is a .25 size larger, but with the wedding band, it fits perfect. As long as your ring doesn't go over your knuckle, you should be okay. I sleep in all of my jewelry. I find that if I take it off at night, I will forget to put it back on.

Thought I was the only one!Mine swell at night. I've heard of salt intake being the reason before but I don't add additional salt to anything when I eat. So I will try drinking water before I go to bed to see if that does the trick.

Also, if you are losing weight for the wedding, your finger will get smaller too. I don't know if you are or not, but it is something to consider if you are.

@Sharonte - even if you don't use a salt shaker at the table, you could still be eating heaps of sodium if you eat a lot of restaurant or processed foods. If you're cooking at home from fresh ingredients, your sodium intake is probably much lower.

It’s completely normal for hands to swell at night. It’s best to take off all jewelry before you go to bed anyways so nothing breaks and you don’t scratch yourself.

I just think fingers swell in the morning because I just got a ring as a gift and in the morning it’s harder to get on and at night it’s easier to slip on and off
