I don't get invited to many weddings, but this weekend I got an invitation in the mail!! Y'all I literally jumped up and down I was so excited Smiley smile My best friend from high school is getting married, and on a yacht no less. Well I filled out my RSVP and put it in the pile to mail out on Monday, Well, my FH came to me and asked if we were really going....I was like Duhhhh yeea! He said OK but I thought we were trying to save money. I looked at the invitation again and it said:

FREE food, entertainment and ALL you can drink

*$50 admission*

WHAT?!?! Have you ever seen this before?? I really want to go, but $100 plus a wedding gift might be pushing it one week before our wedding.

@AndixLyn, right??! The most expensive movie theater I've been to costs $10 or $11 and that's on a Saturday night (cheaper for matinees). Where do these people live? haha

If my choice of venue was going to charge admission, I'd be finding another venue.

    That is ridiculous!

Wait, what? $50? That is utter nonsense. Who does that?

There is no way I would go - just like I declined to go to a wedding where on the invite the mother of the bride stuck a little card to it and it said "Please purchase a gift from *one of 6 registries* or give AT LEAST $75 in lieu of a gift in the form of cash. I still have that invite somewhere - it was nuts.

I agree with @FitBride, but more like buying champagne with Soda money.

If you are still close, I would absolutely still go to support her. Maybe she doesn't have anyone directing her or letting her know that this is a bad idea. It's crass and in poor-choice, but, she is your friend.

After thinking about it, I would probably still go. We've spent way more than $100 on cash bars at weddings, so $100 for food and drinks isn't horrible. They would get a card only. But, I definitely would be silently judging them (or maybe not so silently behind their backs or on WW). I compromised a ton to be able to provide for my guest without them taking out their wallets at my wedding.

That's weird! But like others said IF you do decide to go I don't think a gift is necessary.

My sister got married on a yacht and even though there were other people on the yacht we still had the whole upper level to ourselves. Maybe, hopefully, that's what they mean when they say other people will be there. :fingers crossed:

Well the friend I spoke with is the bridesmaid/ wedding planner, and she thought it was just fine. I will probably go, because I want to keep the friendship. I just wish she would have told me about it one of the 15 times we have spoken about weddings together!!

It does sound kinda of weird. i would pay the the 100 dollars for me and my fh admission and then give her 100 in a card. When you attend weddings the minimum to put in a card is 100 a person anyway. Since she asking people to pay to get into her wedding and expecting a gift. Her gift will definitely be cut in half because the other half will be going to the admission.

$200 minimum in a card? ohh...pass me your invite list because I'm gonna need some of that over here! haha

As far as the admission fee...that's tacky as crap. I had enough issue with the thought of going out to eat with our immediate families and people buying their own meals.

I agree with Natasha. $100 per person is my standard amount as well, if we can afford it. FH is in a wedding in a few weeks, but the hotel they are requiring us to stay in for two nights and the $400 outfit they are requiring him to wear, plus the 8 hours of travel and her bridal shower gift...yeah, they aren't getting that much from us.

This is HILAROUS! I would be so curious that I probably couldn't resist attending. But I would not be bringing a gift. Just a card. And I'd probably bring my own koozie.

Nothing says free dinner and drinks like a $50 cover charge...
