I gave a check at their wedding 11/3 and she STILL hasn't cashed it!?

Of course I did what anyone else would do after this long - I contacted the bride to make sure she got it and there wasn't any problems trying to cash it. She said she hasn't had a chance to get to the bank. Really? It's so inconsiderate when I'm trying to balance my checkbook and and after over 6...

Giving cash was not an option after all the stolen present stories I've heard, and after my own wedding I certainly appreciated getting money over a gift card, registry etc. It's just so incredibly frustrating to have to chase after someone to accept a gift you gave them. I understand people order custom thank you cards and they take a while, but please cash the check, and send a thank you later!

Commenting on some of the comments--

My bank doesn't have the option to do that photo deposit thing. Regardless while I do online banking, I don't feel secure about my phone's security to access my bank account that way...

Some banks are pickier than others so the hassle of the names may or may not apply to everyone. I agree, to be safe, make it out to either the bride OR the groom but not both!

Ugh I hate that. Thats one thing I like about my bank I have to preauthorize all my checks so it automatically balances my account for me. Needless to say Im never leaving them. But she has to see how inconsiderate this is to you anyone else who wrote a check because I know you guys arent the only ones. Sorry this happen to you.

We deposited all the cash and checks made to cash the day after the wedding

when we got back from the HM, we each deposited checks made out to each of us (signing all took a while)

a couple weeks later, we went to the bank w/ the ones made out to both or Mrs & Mrs. and our marriage license, but all they wanted was a drivers license to add both to account.

a few people who write out to Mrs & Mrs asked why we hadn't deposited within those couple weeks. obviously, we said it's YOUR FAULT lol

the checks we got later were deposited via phone right away (couldn't do that with more than one bc that would be annoying)

ps I used to think people were crazy if they deposited wedding checks the next day, but now I realize how crazy it is to leave them home while you are on the HM!

Wow, I'm totally in the minority here! I really don't care how long it takes someone to cash a check I write. I keep my checkbook pretty organized so it's not hard to tell what has/hasn't cleared yet. If someone takes awhile to cash a check, that just means a little extra I earn as interest/dividend.

Give her the benefit of the doubt - maybe she really hasn't had the time.

I'm with those saying it hasn't been *that* long. It's the holidays, she just got married, she probably had a honeymoon--- surely there are better things to get upset about in life.

It is a hassle if you are not keeping a check register, but I have found that many couple hold the checks because they are made out to Mr. and Mrs. and wait to for the marriage certificate. However, there is no need for that, we deposited the next day into Hubby's account, the bank said all that was required was for both of us to sign the back of the checks and the account holder's signature needed to be last.

I wrote thank yous before cashing checks, but 95% of our thank yous went out within 5 days of our wedding. It's weird to take the money without saying thank you first, IMO.

I do big checks (like rent and car payments) with cashier checks. I hated that my landlady would take a couple weeks to cash. Those are big checks!

I didn't bother reading all of these comments but I think you are completely overreacting...People have lives and many of them might not have time to get to the bank. I left immediately for my honeymoon and was gone almost 2 weeks. When I got back my grandmother was in the hospital and I was working ridiculous hours. For me to go to the bank over my lunch would not work because my bank is a 30 minute drive away from work. We did cash all the checks that were made out to us separately but the ones that were made out to us both (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) required that we both go into the bank together. We spent our first weekend at home together over a month (probably close to 6 weeks) after our wedding and then we were finally able to make it to the bank. I'm sorry but if you are going to write a check you need to understand people take awhile to deposit them and get over it

Dan took most of our checks to the bank since he was off for a few days after the wedding, while I had to go back to work.

If it is made out to both of you, you can write, FOR DEPOSIT ONLY, on the back of the check, then only one of you has to sign it. That's what he had to do, since I didn't sign any of them.

I still agree though that it isn't that absurd that she hasn't had time to go to the bank.

We cashed ours the day we got back from our honeymoon for this reason. but i also got thank yous out right away.

also i was very lucky that since (i guess?) we alrady had a joint account our bank was pretty lenient about letting us cash everything that was made out to us as a couple or with my married name that isn't legal yet

    Paris is my hero.

And everyone who waits a long time to cash checks, beware. Some people aren't conscientious at all about making sure they have the money, and if you wait too long, you could end up trying to deposit a check that bounces, which means a $20 (or so) fee plus no money for you.

The point of having a register is to record what is being added or taken out of the account. If you have the check logged & subtracted your balance should reflect that. Who cares if she cashes it now or 6 months??

My FH has chase and where we live there is only an ATM that is withdrawal only. He has to drive at least 30 minutes to get to an actual bank. And can't deposit personal checks through his phone because the routing numbers aren't on the back like a business check....he works on call and NEVER can get out of town unless we are headed on vacation. Maybe something like this is happening to her.
