i don’t want to plan anymore

Lex, on June 8, 2019 at 1:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 21
We found out last night (85 days out y’all) that our venue is no longer going to be able to host us. But don’t worry, the said they’d still do catering. We were getting it for free, so we didn’t have a contract, just a verbal agreement. I’m totally beating myself up over this.
We didn’t budget for this at all. In fact, we could barely afford it when it was free. Our invitations are already out, we have RSVPs coming in. We haven’t told anyone yet because we aren’t sure where to go from here. We don’t have a space at home large enough to host 50 people. Everything else in town starts at $1000, and I totally doubt anything would be available. I’m totally lost. Literally everything was planned out and I have to completely start over.
Please help, I just want to give up.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you! Could you check with churches in your town? Explain the situation and see if they'd be willing to rent out their space!

Try an Airbnb. I've said this before but they're becoming popular places because many have a large enough yard to accommodate

    Hey Lex,

I am so sorry this happened to you guys! Do you have any local parks or gardens? I know down in NC we can book a park for like 100 dollars for a few hours.

Yes, I actually found several too in my search. Or even a VRBO.

Yes, I live in charleston SC and to book The Battery is only a couple hundred. Also, most of our beaches are free if you buy some permit for like $35. Hope everything works out!

If I need to, I’ll look into churches, but we aren’t religious so I doubt they’ll let us have the wedding there.

I’ve looked into Airbnb but the ones in our town are pretty small and not that great. I’ll keep looking though!

I am soooo sorry this is happening to you. I feel like the venue should also help locate somewhere you can host it. That is ridiculous! But please don’t get down...you can totally pull this off. The Airbnb is a good idea but remember to disclose to the owners. You’d hate to have your event running and the police show up. Some owners don’t want events being held. I think the best thing to do would be to find a community hall or a park. The catering would be the most expensive thing but at least that’s covered. I feel awful. Feel free to private message me your location. I am a google queen and would be willing to help the search if you tell me your location (I don’t know if I sound psycho lol but my heart hurts for you so I want to help). I hope things work out for you. Once the location is picked you can get CHEAP postcards to send out to your guests to notify them of the venue change along with word of mouth.

Take a couple of days off. Enjoy a relaxing weekend with your fiance'. You still have almost three months to get this fixed. Once you've had a chance to unwind, you can jump in and start contacting local parks and rec associations. You have food. All you need is a pretty spot to serve it.

Which is absolutely understandable. Wedding planning is already hard and then to have this thrown at you so close to the day is unimaginable difficult. Take a breath and then dive into fixing mode. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Don’t let this knock you down. Every challenge I’ve faced in planning I try to look at as a life lesson. Marriage is hard and there will be times I’m sure my husband and I will be thrown things we weren’t expecting so this is good practice on how to handle those times haha. I’m so serious about the help as well. You will figure this out and things will be beautiful 😀

Make sure at the air abNB you can host events. At some you can’t.

I’m soooo sorry for the extra stress this has put onto you guys so close to the wedding. Hopefully the Airbnb option works out, if not, see if there’s anyone you know who can host at their home if you are willing to toss a few bucks their way for any inconvenience. You may also want to check into any local centers that may want to help

Im so sorry! I would look at Airbnb or VRBO for houses that have a big yard, I went to a wedding that was a rented airbnb and it was really nice. Also, check out local town halls, the ones in my city are super cheap to rent.

Did the venue give you an explanation as to WHY they couldn’t host you on that date? It seems odd that they can’t host your event but could still cater it?
