I went into dress shopping with a specific vision in mind... I wanted a plunging neckline with spaghetti straps or off the shoulder with a soft A-line or sheath/column siloughette and it had to fit our fairytale theme. I did get the soft A-line in French tulle (super soft). However, I didn't get the top I really wanted. I tried on a total of 24 dresses between 3 stores. Nothing was right. Either the top wasn't right or the bottom wasn't, or the dress was horribly itchy everywhere and I couldn't stand wearing it with my sensitive skin.

I ended up going with dress number 20. It's very comfortable, has an open back with beaded straps on the sides and it has a plunging keyhole in the bodice that goes from about mid chest down to just above the belly button. The keyhole was a compromise for the plunging neckline. The bodice is a high neck/halter style. I think the best way I can describe it would be that it's all illusion for the bodice with lace overlay and then it has built in cups. The top part of the bodice is the illusion gathered to meet at the neckline with matching beading for the neckline. And the whole top has tiny sequins throughout. I'll add some pictures. Although I think the dress is very pretty, it just doesn't feel like me. I bought it because nothing in my budget was working for me, but this dress was so comfortable and I loved the bottom and the open back. I just don't love the very top of the bodice because I feel so covered up. Not that I wear a lot of revealing clothing, but I don't wear halter tops or high neck shirts, so it just doesn't quite feel like "me". But my mom and sister who went dress shopping insisted it was my dress and I sent pictures to my fiancés aunts that I'm close with and they loved it, so did my bridesmaids.
I'm not worried about my fiancé liking the dress. I think he will love it. I could walk down the aisle in just about anything and I'm sure he would think I looked great. I'm worried I won't feel confident wearing it on my wedding day. I tried my dress on at home and cried in it because I felt so insecure in it that my mom came over to make me feel better.
I am having a couple alterations done. My seamstress already made the top a bit more fitted on the sides of the bust which made a huge difference! But I also asked her if she could bring the cups up just a tiny bit because they sit too low for where my boobs fall. Plus I think raising the cups will make the torso area look a little longer and more flattering since I have a short torso. My next fitting is in February so we will see if that helps. The low cups were making me feel like I had slighyly sagging boobs since mine aren't as big as the dress has room for, so I hope moving them up boosts my confidence! Here are some pictures from before any alterations were done. Please ignore any clutter in the background.cfb_1452301.jpg

Awe thank you so much Megan! I hope so too! I go in 3 weeks to try it on again and make sure everything is perfect. My seamstress said as long as the hem and bustle are to my satisfaction (and now the raising of the cups) I can take it home that day! Kind of nervous the hem will end up too short for some reason. Lol here I go overthinking it!

It is a gorgeous dress! But if you don't love it, your unhappiness will be very obvious to others. Go ahead and sell your dress on Craigslist/Offerup/Letgo and take your idea to a local seamstress to have them design and sew the dress you want.

Hi Michelle, thanks for the compliments and advice! I've toyed with the idea of selling it, but I think I love the dress enough to want to keep it, I think if I can just tweak the top a bit it might just end up being a lot more to my liking. I'm considering asking my seamstress to maybe remove some of the lace at the very top of the dress because when she took it in to fit my chest better, the lace ended up coming to the very top where the beading on the neckline is and I think it might open it up a bit to remove some of the lace. I'm just worried about the illusion underneath being ruined. Something I'll have to ask her about at my next fitting.

That is such a beautiful dress on you! But I totally get feeling like you didnt find "the one". It is very difficult to find the dress you just have to have and that you feel confident in for such a special day. I am the opposite, I am looking for a dress that I stand out in that is "the one"(which is hard since I am very picky).

Hi Nicole, thank you!! I think the problem is that the dresses that are more "me" are in the $2000+ range and that is way too far out of budget for me. I think this is probably the best I could find even if I did want to buy a different dress. That's awesome! I love seeing those kinds of statement dresses where the bride is a total show stopper! And everyone looks at her in awe! I hope you find your perfect dress!! I think those dresses that have the removable skirt are really cool! You can have 2 different looks that way too if you wanted. Something more bam for the ceremony and something more slinky for the reception?

I’ve been dying to have a dress with a removable skirt but none are in my price range or they aren’t my style.

Dang I'm so sorry! Dresses are so expensive! Guys have it so easy! My fiancé was able to rent his suit for $40! And I paid $1000 for my dress! It was originally $1200 which was my max budget but I got a small discount for taking it off the rack. I really hope you find your dream dress! You may have to try several stores, and don't be afraid to shop online too! I saw loads of dresses on pintrest that were only like $200 and I wish I would have just bought them! They had free returns if I didn't like it. Should have just tried it at least!

You look beautiful. i think a lot of brides think about if they made the right choice after the fact or at least i know i did. So i went and got my hair and makeup done and got back in the dress to reconfirm i made the right choice.

Thanks Michelle! I'm glad I'm not the only one! I've had my dress since August and I've just had this internal debate with myself ever since I bought it. I'm so glad that worked for you! Seeing myself with my hair and makeup in the dress does help a lot!

You're so right! Nothing wrong with having something different! Just need to adjust to it and forget the other dresses. I've been looking through the pics of me trying it on in the store when they let me take my mask off for a couple minutes with the good lighting and I was like wow. It looks 100x better like that than it does at my seamstresses place with her dark "mood lighting" lol.

Hi Amanda, thank you so so much! I was hating on my dress so much that I actually cried about it the other night but then I found some really nice pictures of me in it other than the ones posted above from when I was trying it on in the store and I have fallen in love with it now I think! All of the compliments from you all and my friends have really boosted my self esteem and helped change the way I look at it! It's different, yes, but perfectly lovely and so beautiful! ❤ thanks girl!

First of all, you look gorgeous, so ethereal! Secondly, what you’re feeling is totally normal. I worked in bridal for three years, and now I’m a bride myself, and every bride has these thoughts at least once. Your dress is so unique and special and looks like it’ll photograph beautifully! Also, off topic but I love your hair! Something about your red hair with that lace and tulle is just magical
