I asked my cousin to be my reader for my wedding, buuuut...

Olivia, on August 7, 2012 at 2:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I have no idea what! My aunt said she had her reader do 1 Corinthians 13 at her wedding, and while it is a very important verse, I feel like everybody does it! What are some suggestions? What are you having read? Or what did you have?

I would just really like for my cousin to be a part of my day somehow! Smiley smile

I thought this Dr. Suess thing was cute, but I don't know.

Im thinking of having someone do a reading of Corinthians..is it overdone, yes, but we arent having a typical church wedding but still want to incorporate our religion into our ceremony and marriage. Sometimes you shouldnt worry about trying to do something different and just do what speaks to your heart, whatever that may be.

We had 1 Cor, it was really the only thing that we had that is 'over-done' in my opinion, but it has always been my favourite bible chapter. As a second reading, we had this:

    I Like You

I like you and I know why

I like you because you are a good person to like

I like you because when I tell you something special, you know it's special

And you remember it a long, long time

You say, Remember when you told me something special

    And both of us remember

When I think something is important you think it's important too

    We have good ideas

When I say something funny, you laugh

I think I'm funny and you think I'm funny too

    Hah-hah!

I like you because you know where I'm ticklish

And you don't tickle me there except just a little tiny bit sometimes

But if you do, then I know where to tickle you too

You know how to be silly - that's why I like you

If I am getting ready to pop a paper bag,

then you are getting ready to jump

    HOORAY

I like you because when I am feeling sad

You don't always cheer me up right away

Sometimes it is better to be sad

You can't stand the others being so googly and gaggly every single minute

You want to think about things

    It takes time

I like you because if I am mad at you

Then you are mad at me too

It's awful when the other person isn't

They are so nice and oooh you could just about punch them on the nose

    I can't remember when I didn't like you

It must have been lonesome then

Even if it was the 999th of July

    Even if it was August

Even if it was way down at the bottom of November

I would go on choosing you

And you would go on choosing me

    Over and over again

And that's how it would happen every time

My brother and SIL, who are both elementary teachers, had part of Dr Seuss's Oh The Places You'll Go.

Find something that fits you and FH. That quote from Dr Seuss is great, but I don't think it's really long enough to be a reading. Perhaps you could find a bunch of different quotes you love, and string them all together and have her read that?

    I hate Corinthians

I've heard it at so many weddings that end in divorce that I feel like at this point its more of a jinx

That's really cute. We had our reader do the Art of a Good Marriage by Wilferd Peterson.

    That is so cute.

Im with Mrs. Smith, I hate Corinthians. When my friends and I go to weddings now, we place bets on if it will be read or not

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness
