The centerpieces at a wedding that I was in were mostly hydrangeas. The bride wanted peonies, but they were out of season and $35 a stem (a few years ago). She also asked about carnations - to give the round affect on the centerpieces - and they were more expensive, too.

Hydrangeas weren't used for bouquets, though. What really shriveled up were the stephanotis, which were used in bouquets and boutonnieres.

FSIL planted her own and her florist used them in her centerpieces and bouquets. The florist cut them 2 days before. They turned out beautiful, but of course I don't have a pic.

They are beautiful but need a lot of TLC. Don't expect your bouquet to last all day, they have to be in water pretty much all the time. Your florist can design ways of keeping them hydrated but it's a good idea to have some vases of water on hand for yours and your BM bouquets if you want to keep them looking nice.

@pp I called my florist crying, she came to the rescue, my bm went to a local place and bought replacements of the same. Ones, the brides maid flowers had them the damage too, we just took our the roses and used them and with the flowers my bm got at the local florist they put in my bouquet, still came out beautiful but stressful

Those of you who had good luck using the hydrangeas, were they in the water tubes/vials?

We used hydrangeas in our ceremony arrangements and they were beautiful! :-) Our colors were blush, ivory, gold and burgundy.

    Hire a pro!

All of our bouquets had hydrangeas. Our florist delivered them at 12pm for a 230pm ceremony and put them in water with ice. They were still gorgeous when I dropped them off for preservation 2 days later

All floral arrangements at my wedding were hydrangea. Here's what I've learned. Real hydrangea is super expensive and difficult to keep hydrated so they wilt quickly and make a horrible mess. I used all artificial hydrangea. Mostly silk because they look the most realistic. Watch for sales, bogos and coupons for Hobby Lobby, Michaels or whatever craft stores are in your area.

I used blue and white hydrangeas, with roses and lavender orchids. Hydrangeas are beautiful! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    NancyT,

My centerpiece hydrangeas were in vases of water and the bouquets were kept in water vases right up until we walked down the aisle. My florist delivered the day of so that helped.

I'm using them. My florist has told me they constantly need water so we are using them for centerpieces and some for my bouquet on the bottom to fill it out. The fireplace will have greenery and the church pews will have another flower so they don't wilt. My florist said she wouldn't even let me do hydrangeas for the church or boutonnières because they wont have water

Hydrangeas definitely do not make good cut flowers. My mom had them in the garden when I was growing up and once cut they only lasted 24 hours.
