Hurricane Irma possibly ruining my wedding day

Alex, on September 5, 2017 at 9:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

So I have 10 days until my wedding. I am in South Carolina, mid state. I never thought I would be in this predicament, wondering if a hurricane would ruin my wedding day. The predictions of the hurricane coming for South Carolina aren't set in stone yet but I am terrified it's going to hit us. I hope that thing takes a hard right turn back to the ocean where it belongs. Anyone in the same boat as me????

I'm in south Florida.. The Keys were evacuated, special needs residents evacuated from Miami.... my wedding isn't even on my radar. So no offense, but I'd rather be in SC than south Florida....

Same as HisBeauty. We are potentially going to get devastated down here. If it hits Florida our state will absorb a lot of the damage and slow it down. If you are looking at a Cat 3 or lower hitting you its just going to be trees and power lines down, not roofs ripped off.

ETA: I really hope that your wedding day is not affected. That would be heartbreaking. However it's just a whole other level down here we are all concerned about loss of life etc.

Hoping no one's wedding outside of Florida has to be postponed. Thinking of my fellow Florida couples. Please stay safe v

I'll be getting married on the gulf coast in next Saturday but we leave next Thursday.. I'm so nervous. I just pray that it stays in the ocean. I've started making arrangements here just in case we can't get married in Florida.

I'm in Jacksonville To which is right over the Ga border and they are saying it shouldn't hit us until Sunday evening. So unless you have business here in Fl (I.e honeymoon or a flight transfer) hopefully you should be ok

It's pretty nerve-wrecking all around whether you're in Florida, the gulf, or the Carolinas- especially for those of us that have upcoming weddings. After all, hurricanes are still fairly unpredictable and it can take months to recuperate from a strong hit. Hearing words like "catastrophic" every day are very worrisome. So my wedding IS most definitely on my radar. Of course I'm concerned about my loved ones, damage, loss of life, etc... but I also have the capacity to be worried about my wedding along with those things. But whether you worry or not, the hurricane is going to run its course.. and you have to decide how you're going to cope with it. Just make sure you're prepared and safe, everything else comes second.

ETA: I live in South FL.

I am also getting married on Sept 16th at Carolina Beach and am terrified. I have no idea where to start in case it does come for the Carolinas. Just hoping for the best! That's all we can do until we know for sure about which way it will head.

I also live in south Florida and I can't imagine the possible devastation we may face. We actually evacuated to Tn. I understand being nervous about your wedding. I'm nervous about my venue possibly being flooded if this hurricane hits.

By the time it reaches SC (if it does at all) it will be maybe a tropical storm - which means lots of rain and some wind. I would talk to your vendors and locations ASAP to come up with a contingency plan.

@Rebecca I'm currently in Ky. We had planned on going to Fl on the 13th. I'm not really sure what the idea is now. We are also supposed to fly out to punta cana on the 17th for our honeymoon.

@Kristen, sweetie I am very sorry. Start a back up plan now and pray for the best. I can't even begin to imagine what you and others are going through.

I'm just hoping for everyone to be okay! FSIL lives down in Tampa and I hope she can make it back up for the wedding in 9 days but most importantly I hope her house and everyone else's will be okay down there! So scary!! We have a layover in Orlando for our honeymoon to Aruba but that can always be rescheduled if needed. We just saw so much destruction in Texas I can't imagine it happening again so soon!

Hi Alex. My fiancé and I were supposed to get married on Saturday in Miami. We live there but most of our guests were flying in. On Monday we made the decision to postpone all festivities as this is an Act of God and out of our control and our lives and safety trumps all. It's crazy as you realize what really matters, our life and safety. We planned for the happiest day of our lives for months and now it's a devastating week. Our family and friends have been great, some people had their negative opinions but we can't focus on that as emotions are already haywire. Sending love to you all ??????
