Hurricane Florence Cancels My Wedding

Catjam, on September 11, 2018 at 6:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

When I started planning, I had over 200 days to start my count down. All my DIY's are boxed, my favors (edibles) are hand packaged with our names and dates, all my purchases from Amazon, Etsy, etc. boxed with wedding or reception marked. My wedding dress in at my neighbor's house. The only thing left to buy was drinks/food/essentials for beach house. We have a beautiful rental house, beachfront with a long back porch and pier at Folly Island, SC. ALL coastal areas are being mandatory evacuated.Today we called our small group of 30 guests and vendors to cancel everything. All my planning, details and dreams came to a halt when the weather changed. I have cried a river and feel totally exhausted....I haven't smiled in days. We ARE going on our honeymoon/trip to the TN mountains on Sunday for a week and look forward to getting away from Charleston....hopefully. I've been encouraged by friends/family to reschedule, but for now I just need a break....

Thanks for letting me vent ladies and hope your planning/dreams continue to go smoothly

I am soooo sorry! -- On a positive note if you do reschedule you can use your favors with your date, and maybe add a little joke like postponed due to weather, but weather can't stop true love! Back on new-date! It sounds like your guest list was small enough and your location was intimate enough that if there isn't too much hurricane damage you could do the same plan just a new date... Or you could get married at a court house on your date, and have the reception later. I am sorry you are going through this! Good luck! Enjoy your honeymoon! Try not to stress too much!

I am very sorry to hear this. Please do not be discouraged. You will have the wedding you have planned in due time . Unfortunately, whene we plan for a wedding no one knows what the weather is going to be. You have to think positively and know that you and you fiance love each other and will be together no matter what. I always say in times like these, this is just an inconvenience that will be resolve and you will be the happiest woman on earth. But at the same time lets take a moment to think about the residents out there that have died in the midst of this storm. Good luck and keep us posted.

So sorry ladies. I know the frustration and disappointment! I too had everything packed, boxes labeled, dress steamed, as readyyy as ever for our 9.17 wedding in the OBX of NC. We canceled the wedding officially on Thursday but I found out today that they are letting visitors on the island tomorrow. Wouldnt matter anyway because so many of our guests are traveling from GA, western NC, Wilmington, etc and travel there would have been very difficult. It.has.been.exhausting. But we were fortunate in the storm and can reschedule a wedding. Some folks in eastern NC have lost so much more. Perspective is key in getting through this because it is still a loss! We planned these special days for so long and so tediously and it certainly hurts that it wont be what I thought it would be. I will marry my sweetheart on Monday though with just my parents and some close friends and we will re-plan the wedding for later. I saw a quote yesterday from Holly Wagners - Find Your Brave, and it is exactly what I needed: "We can look back and wish for something different or we can look ahead and trust that God will meet us there."

So sorry this happened to you and any others. Nothing says you can’t take that dress to the mountains with you. It’s a beautiful place to get married as well and come back and have a celebration.

I’m so sorry that this happened to you. We also had to cancel our wedding in Charlotte due to flooding concerns. After a year of planning we feel so defeated by it all. I have not cried this hard in so long and our venue does not have an open Saturday until June but we have decided to postpone until then. I have been looking for guidance with how to approach my mentality since I know we are also fortunate that we are alive and well. But it has just been so hard to not think of what could have been. Thank you for your post; it has helped me remind myself that we are not the only ones. I hope you enjoy your time with your fiancé.
