How/where to sell my wedding dress

Anita, on October 25, 2007 at 3:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi all,

We were married in September 07, and I'd like to sell my wedding dress. It is so lovely. It doesn't make sense to me to just keep it storage.

I've tried Craig's list, preownedweddingdresses.com, and might try eBay or a consignment shop. Any other suggestions?

In case you're wondering, it is a white, size 16 (street size 10/12) Casablanca 1831. V-Neck with spagetti straps in the back. Elegant. Flattering on imperfect bodies (because of the rouched bust and waist.) Buttons all the way down the train. Very minimal beading.

Your suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

A.W.

Thats a gorgeous dress! I would definitely try ebay. And on here, and Bridalhood. Anywhere else that has a wedding discussion board. If you have a picture you should include it. Good luck!

You also might want to consider donating your dress. I did this with prom/sorority formal dresses after I graduated college, and it was a great way to make room in my closet and help others.

A great organization is Making Memories, that has used wedding gown sales around the country called Brides Against Breast Cancer to raise money for breast cancer research: http://bridesagainstbreastcancer.org/

There are also tons of local/regional places like The Glass Slipper Project (Chicago), The Ruby Room (Seattle), The Cinderella Project (Los Angeles), The Priceless Gown Project (Baltimore), and many many others that accept formal wear to give underprivileged teenage girls a prom dress -- tell your bridesmaids!

Lastly, the I Do Foundation accepts your donated dress, and resells it, and 10% of the profits go to a charity you and your spouse designate -- and its tax deductible!

I hope this gives you some other options to just selling the gown! Smiley smile

Honestly. I am in the same boat. I was married June 2007. I have a stunning Maggie dress retail value $1500 with the extras, total retail value over $2500. I am asking a low $500 or BO for all and I too can not seem to sell it. I had a few hits from Craigs List, however 2 out of 3 were scams. Consignment shops in my area no longer will do wedding dresses, bc they just sit in the store. Its hard bc most brides want something new, their own for their special day, and you can go to Davids and get a new Dress for next to nothing.

I wish you the best of LUCK!

Post it on wedding websites. I am always seeing someone entering a post asking if anyone is selling their wedding gown. Yes its true lots of girls want their own but they just can not afford it. You can also put a notice on your church bullentin board I had a friend that did that and she sold hers within a couple of days.

    Good luck

Hello, and congratulations on your wedding. I agree that there is no sense in putting your dress in a box and leaving it in the back of your closet.

instead of selling it, have you considered having a Trash The Dress session?

    Anita,

Do you still have this dress? I've been pining over it for months! It seems like yours would be the perfect size for me, so please drop me an email if you get this message! Thanks,

    Sarah

BravoBride.com is a great site to consider, not only for selling your dress but also for selling anything else left over from the wedding Smiley laugh
