How’d you figure out your budget number?

I just hadn't spoke with my fiance about how much we wanted to spend and then we stuck with him that. Now, I will say this. He purposely didn't see the point of spending a lot for photography while I see it as this is our one time getting married and we should have nice pictures to look back on so I'm paying for that myself as I want a nice photographer.

We decided how much we were comfortable spending out of our current savings, then decided how much we could realistically save each month and multiplied it by the number of months until the wedding.

I did a bit of research on average pricing of vendors beforehand to come up with a reasonable range. Lots of brides get hit with sticker shock after they've chosen vendors so it was nice to have an idea of what was way above norm and not be blindsided.

Also, your guest will definitely determine how much you spend on a venue, catering. Sit down and roughly list out everyone you want to include, so you know how big you have to plan for.

It depends on what you want to do for your wedding and what you are capable of doing for your wedding. Talk to your fh about it and take it from there. Check around for vends to get tour average price. A lot goes into planning a wedding

We looked at venues we liked and took into consideration the number of guest we wanted to invite. We never set a hard budget, we just discussed what we thought was reasonable for each vendor and what we felt we didn’t want to spend a lot on vs. what we felt was worth more money. We ended up picking our venue because the rental cost was the cheapest even though the food is more it saved us money because of the difference in rental cost. Plus it came with a day of coordinator and linens which was another savings. It was our 2nd pick but we couldn’t beat the price and it’s a beautiful venue.

My hubby & I discussed how much we could save every month until the wedding (we opened a joint checking account for this). That, plus a small upfront cash gift from my mom, became our initial budget.

I think I just decided on a number I was comfortable with that would also work in having a decent wedding. I did bump the costs up after seeing how much things I'd want would cost though

We picked the number we were sure we could safely accumulate prior to our wedding while staying true to our "We are NOT spending a small fortune for a 6 hour party." We are not willing to go into debt over a party...whether we spend $2000 or $50,000 at the end of the day we are still married and still celebrating with our nearest and dearest. Comparison shopping has been a key. We are only at a quarter of our max budget and have the majority of our big ticket expenses taken care of.
