How Young Is Too Young For Flower Girl/Ring Bearer?

What is the "minimum age" for a flower girl and/or ring bearer? Is 2 too young? How old were your flower girls and ring bearers?

I agree! This seems to be a popular idea, and I think I'm going to do the same! I will pair the 2-year-old with the older kids so they can help guide him down the aisle. Thank you for your input! Glad to hear it worked out well for your wedding!

My ring bearers were 1 and 2. My mom had to help them down the aisle, but they did a great job!

I love this idea I think I may need to borrow it. Lol! My grand baby will be 3 by the time my wedding in September 2021 comes but I am still unsure on how she will do.

Is there an older child also participating in your wedding that you can pair the 3-year-old with? That way, the older child can help guide the younger one down the aisle! I'm sure it'll all work out!

My flower girls are all on the older side. I have three, who will be 7, 8 and 10.

Very cool! I think those are ideal ages for flower girls. Are you going to have them each spread rose petals down the aisle? Or just walk down the aisle?

My niece was my flower girl and was 4. Her mom was my MOH and she ended up crying when she made it to the alter for her mom to pick her up. She cried during the preacher's intro and then had to be escorted out. My nephews as ring bearers ages 6 and 9 did great! After all is said and done I think she was a bit to young for the job. That said all kids are different. Good luck!

Aww, bummer that she cried! Did she walk down the aisle alone? Or with the ring bearers? I agree that all kids are different - especially after reading all the previous replies, it seems like some people had great experiences with young kids in the wedding party, and others did not.

I'll be having them throw rose petals down the aisle.

We had my two 2-year-old nephews. It was so sweet! My mom (their grandma) walked them down the aisle and my dad walked me. It worked out so well, I loved it. As others mentioned, a 2-year-old will need help. But you can use a wagon, have someone hold their hand (if it’s a short aisle) or carry them for a longer one.

I didn’t mention this, but this is an excellent point. I didn’t give them the rings, I let them hold a pillow with Amazon rings. But don’t give something so expensive and sentimental to a 2 year old.
