How Young Is Too Young For Flower Girl/Ring Bearer?

Lisa, on November 14, 2020 at 7:34 PM

What is the "minimum age" for a flower girl and/or ring bearer? Is 2 too young? How old were your flower girls and ring bearers?

That's awesome that they're well behaved! I'm relieved to hear that generally, age 2 is an acceptable age for a ring bearer/flower girl. The ones that my fiance and I are considering including in our wedding are also well behaved children, but I'm hoping that if I have all of them walk down the aisle together, that it'll all go well.

Aww, awesome! Glad that it all went well! It's reassuring to hear that age 2 isn't too young and that it can be successful. Thank you for your reply! What did the sign say that your ring bearers held?

My Ring Bearer Was My 2.5 Year Old Son, Flower Girl Was My 1.5 Year Old Niece, She Ended Up Following Asleep Right Before The Ceremony And Was Carried Down The Aisle And Slept The Whole Time Lmao.

I Dont Think Theres Really An Age Restriction.

I don't think 9 is too old! Glad to hear that 2 is a good age, we weren't sure what's "normal". Based on everyone's responses in this discussion, I think I'm going to have the flower girl and ring bearers all walk down the aisle together, so that the older kids can help guide the 2 year old down the aisle. Thank you for your input!

There would be a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old to help guide the 2-year-old down the aisle (one of them would be a sibling of the 2-year-old). I'm really liking the idea of having them walk down together. I'm so glad to hear it worked out at your wedding! Thank you for your input!

My stepson and nephew shared a sign that said "here comes the bride" and our son(2yr old) walked out with the flower girl with a sign that said "daddy here comes mommy"

Aww!! That is adorable. Did she feel less nervous once her dad was there to help? I'm hoping that if I group the flower girl and ring bearers together, the older kids will help guide the 2-year-old down the aisle.

Oh wow! Great variety of ages, sounds like a good group. I'm glad to hear that there's no minimum age recommendation, it seems like 2 is a pretty common age for a flower girl and/or ring bearer. Thank you for your input!

I like this idea! Many people have suggested pairing the 2-year-old with the older kids, so I'm probably going to end up doing that. I love that you're giving the older girls mini bouquets!

Aww! That sounds super cute. Hilarious that the 4-year-old was picking up the flower petals! I definitely wouldn't plan to give the ring bearer the actual rings, we'll give those to the best man. Thank you for your input, this was super helpful!

The kids are generally well behaved, though still very young. The 2-year-old would have an older sibling also walking down the aisle, so if we do decide to include the 2-year-old, we'd probably pair him with his sibling. I agree that kids are unpredictable, and I think that's what makes me most nervous about whether or not to include them. I've still got some time before we have to make a decision, so I will probably wait until time gets closer to be sure. Thank you for your input!

We are having our kids be ring bearer and flower girl. Our son will be 9 and our daughter will be almost 3.

Aww, too funny that your flower girl slept through the whole thing! How did the ring bearer do with walking down the aisle?

Great way to include your kids in your wedding! Are you having them walk down the aisle together? Or separately?

Together, I think my 2 yr old would do better with her brother than by herself.

That makes sense! I'm thinking I'm going to do the same, and have the 2-year-old walk down the aisle with his sister (our flower girl) and also with our other ring bearer (both of which are a few years older than him), I think it would work better for them to help guide him down the aisle.

My flower girls were 8 and 3. the 8-year-old helped guide the 3-year-old down the aisle. I think as long as they can walk the whole distance, and if they have someone to help them down the aisle, they'll be fine
