How was your wait to the ring?

FFW, on April 16, 2015 at 9:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 41

A little less than a yr before my proposal I made a huge step for FH and paid to take the TX bar exam. It cost over $700. I also took a $1000 bar prep course. I decided to do this despite the fact that I hated Houston (still not a fan). I decided at the very last minute in January 2014 (originally I'd gotten a surprise scholarship in October 2013 & somewhat decided to use that money for the Texas bar but on Halloween night I changed my mind). When I made this decision I did not have ANY job prospects in TX. And I only have a little family here (all of which I never met before moving here). We argued for months leading up to this decision b/c I was really disappointed he didn't want to move. And to TOP all of that, he'd already brought the ring (my sister told me). I was beyond confused. I thought I'd proven my committment, still 11 months to the proposal. I would much preferred to be 1 who says "I didn't know it'd happen so soon." How was your wait for the ring?

We picked it out together. It was supposed to take like 6 weeks for the custom work, but unbeknownst to me, it was done in three. He picked it up on a Wednesday evening and proposed on Thursday afternoon.

However, I had told him pretty early in 2014 that as much as I love him, marriage is important to me, and at my age, I wasn't going to be able to stick around if we weren't engaged by the end of the year.

He finally took me to pick out a ring the first week of December and proposed on the 24th.

Let's see we dated for 4 years before he proposed. I was totally ok with taking it slow because 1. I have a daughter to consider 2. I'm a commitmentphobe.

In August of 2013 we agreed to move in together in January 2014. I really thought he'd ask before we moved in. I was thinking a xmas proposal or NYE. When the holidays came and went I was bummed but he surprised me when we took the kid to Disney World that January

We dated for 2 years but were friends for almost 9 years. His sister swore we were going to get engaged on Christmas so I got my hopes up, then SHE got engaged on Christmas in front of the whole family. I got really drunk and cried. lol But we got engaged when I graduated 5 months later so It was happy in the end.

We have been dating for four years, have a 2 year old son, and have been living together for most of our dating life. The wait was brutal. It does not help that I picked out the ring, and he didn't give it to me for another year. Yep waiting was hard. We were waiting for me to finish school though, so it's worth it lol

We picked it out together too. We agreed that we didn't want to go with a surprise engagement because this is a decision the two of us are making as a couple rather than something one of us is springing it on the other. It's weird because I always thought I wanted a big elaborate surprise proposal because I watch and cry over sooooo many youtube proposal videos lol but with Nick it wouldn't feel right for us.

We dated long distance for 5 years before i picked up and moved to NJ. Lived together for another 2 years before FH proposed. I guess you could say i knew it was coming because we had been together for a while- but had no idea when.

I hated waiting for it. I was such a brat. Not proud of my snotty attitude, knowing he had it...

We looked at rings together in September last year. I found the perfect one and he liked it too, then a month passed and another and still no ring! He proposed this year first week of February. I knew it would happen this year before June, just wasn't sure when. I was thrilled when it happened.

Oh several occasions on the course of that year I thought he would propose. After our third dating anniversary passed, I gave up. Not a good feeling to have. Since getting engaged several guys have asked me about how to propose, my advice is always don't make her wait. Its going to be special because its HER PROPOSAL, no one elses. I was thrilled to get engaged but to think I had lost hope just a month prior hurts. I was very bitter. It didn't show and we didnt break up. But I honestly started planning my life in my head w/o him for the first time during our relationship. (I budgeted new furniture for my apartment a new car.... all things I haven't got now, because I am saving for the wedding... YAY) still need a new car though

We've known each other since 2007 so when we finally started dating I knew it was a matter of time lol. I didn't start talking about rings until 2 years in and he would always brush me off. He convinced me to run the Peachtree Road Race on the 4th of July in February of last year and I don't exercise and I hate sweating so I jokingly said if I finish the race he better propose at the end. He would make comments about having a jeweler after that but I kind of brushed it off. I didn't suspect anything about a proposal until the Monday before the race on Friday. He apparently had the ring for about a month before he proposed.

He had the ring in possession IN OUR HOUSE for almost a month before he proposed. He didn't know I knew he had it, or that I knew exactly where it was. I almost went nuts.

We'd been together for almost two years when he proposed...completely out of the blue. I was NOT expecting it. This was just a few days after Christmas. We decided to wait to go ring shopping until after Valentine's Day, because we thought maybe we'd be able to get a better deal if we waited til after the biggest jewelery season of the year. As it turns out, we ended up spontaneously ring shopping a couple of weeks BEFORE Valentine's Day. Just on a whim, we dropped in to one of the local jewelers while we were out walking downtown. So we walked in just to start looking. I saw one ring...two rings...then WHAMO, I saw my ring. There was no question at all. I just saw it and said, "I want that one." And that was it. Tacori, platinum, 48 diamonds. Gorgeous. All we had to do was pick the center stone. So we came in a week later and chose the stone (a Canadian diamond). Two weeks later, I had my ring. Every time I look down and see it on my finger, I am so glad of our choice. I couldn't be happier. NOW I can't wait to add my wedding band to the mix :-)

We applied for a fiance visa in August so we had obviously discussed getting married but weren't officially engaged until October. I obviously knew it was coming sometime during our vacation to Niagara Falls and was so grateful he did it the first night after he surprised me with a gorgeous hotel facing the falls. We are still waiting on the dang visa though LOL.

I'll admit I was getting really annoying toward the end. We had hit the three year mark, bought a house and moved in. He told me it was going to happen in 2015. We moved in in August. We had gone to a lot of "romantic" places and I kept hoping it would happen, and didn't. He waited until November to do it, so I was waiting for 11 months, lol. He did tell me he was originally planning to do it right before midnight on New Year's Eve so he could say "I told you it would be this year!" I would have killed him hahaha

We were together five years, but I never felt like I was waiting. We knew after two weeks we were going to get married, but we wanted to finish school (grad school first) and establish ourselves. He bought my dream ring so no complaints.

We dated a little over a year before he proposed. We moved very quickly in our relationship though. I met him in April, we started officially dating in July, I moved in with him in October, and we were engaged the next October. I knew from like the third date that he was the one for me. He actually asked my dad for his blessing like three months before he proposed to me. Of course I knew because he asked for my moms phone number and when I asked my mom why he called her, she was acting all weird so I knew!! So literally those three months after I knew he already asked my dad was TORTUROUS!!!!

We had been dating about ten and a half months when he propsed. We had started talking about marriage three months in. We're both in our late 20's a knew what we wanted in a partner so everything happened pretty quick. We went and picked out the ring together and he propsed just over a month later Smiley smile
