How to tip when your wedding venue is part of a package?

Chelsea, on January 12, 2022 at 8:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
I'm trying to figure out how much to tip all of our vendors, but I'm not sure how to handle the caterers, wait staff, bartenders, and coordinators. Our wedding came as a package at our venue that includes food, rentals, bar service, cake, coordinators, and staff. Our invoice does include an 18% service fee, which I thought is meant to cover all tips. But I reached out to the venue to ask, and unfortunately that money is NOT used as tips. So how do I know who to tip and how much? I don't know how many individuals will be working that day, or what the itemized costs are for the food, bar, etc since it's all lumped together. It's stressing me out so much! Thanks in advance for your help Smiley smile

Does your venue assign a coordinator? If so, maybe reach out and ask them for an approximate number of staff that will be working that day. They may not know until the final guest count is given, but can at least give you a ball park. Then I would prepare for the most there could be. I read that $15-20 for each staffer is appropriate, regardless of the amount spent.

A few weeks before our wedding our venue's coordinator gave us a list of who to tip and what the average tip is for each. Someone at your venue should be able to fo the same. The cost of our venue included tips for bar and waitstaff. Maybe check if that is included in your price.

Tipping was one of the hardest things to figure out. If tips aren’t included in this 18% service fee then what is??? I paid a 22% service fee and my venue told me there was no need to tip bartenders or servers and that was included. Is there a day of coordinator you can ask for advice? Tipping amount is going to be very location dependent. I tipped the bus driver (I hired transportation for my guests from hotel to venue), day of coordinator, DJ, hair and makeup artists, and had my day of coordinator give out $5-10 to people who were delivering flowers etc. i didn’t tip my photographer bc I paid her $5k and she owns her business, same with florist (although gave small tips to the people delivering the flowers), didn’t tip officiant. I paid for vendor dinners for photographer and her assistant, photobooth attendant and DJ. I paid for lunch for my hair and make up artists. I offered for my officiant to attend the reception as a guest but she declined.
