How to sell my unworn wedding dress

Alina, on November 12, 2023 at 3:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hello everyone! I need help!

We were planning on getting married in June 2024, but due to the family emergency we had to move the wedding up to January 2024. I already bought a wedding dress from Anthropologie before we changed the date. The dress' original cost was $1750, but i bought it on sale for $1250. Becasue we moved wedding to January, I had to buy another dress that fits winter vibes better, because we are going to have a Christmas themed wedding. Now I am tryingo to sell the Anthropologie wedding dress. It is super prietty, new, and still with the tag. I've listed it on Facebook Market, poshmark, vestiaire, craigslist, and ebay, but still no luck. Any advice?

The dresses usually take a long while to sell. Someone has to find that dress and it be about the right size and price. Another option is to donate the dress for active military or veterans. There may be other donation sites too.

Pre-owned dresses can sometimes take a while to sell, unfortunately. There are websites like StillWhite.com that you could post it on, or you can check with a local secondhand or consignment dress shop in your area (if one exists) to see if they'll sell it for you. Another option to help it sell quicker is to lower the price. You might not get what you paid for it, but you could list it at a discount.

Be patient. You've done the right thing by listing it all of those places, it will take a while to sell. I regularly sell on Poshmark and it can take years to sell certain items.

A lot of it depends on the style, size and price of the dress. I have sold 3 dresses on stillwhite.com - 2 of them sold within 3 months and 1 took 6 months. I've learned that the 2 main reasons people shop on those sites is:

    1. They are trying to find a dress that they can't get (ie, it's sold out, discontinued, won't arrive in time for their wedding, etc.)

    2. They are seeking out a bargain (or a specific dress they cannot afford to purchase full price).

If the dress you are selling is a highly sought-after style and size, it will likely sell quicker and for a higher price. If it's not, you will probably have to offer it at a significant discount.

This looks like a winter wedding dress. You can additionally accesorize it with white or silver/white crystals or diamond earrings, closed toed shoes, or even sparkle nylons.

It may help to take photos in better lighting/ outdoors. The model picture looks like it's an ivory dress, but your photos have tan walls, brown carpet, and warm indoor lighting that's all coming together to give it the appearance of being yellowed or stained.

As mentioned above, it takes the right person at the right size looking for a resale dress, but if your pictures don't do the dress justice it'll be overlooked.
