How to re-sell real wedding flowers?

SR, on May 30, 2021 at 7:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hey guys! I'm hosting a wedding in NYC in May 2022, and we're having a floral designer do all of our flowers (arch, bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, centerpieces). I don't want to just throw out the flowers afterwards, so I was thinking of options for what to do with the flowers.

I might donate the flowers to a local nursery home, but a friend also suggested to try to sell our flowers to someone else holding a wedding nearby occurring around a day or two after ours. It worked for her because there was another wedding occurring the day after hers at the same venue and that couple happened to want her flowers. The couple using our venue the day after has a different color scheme, so that won't work for us.

Does anyone have experience with something like this? If it's too complicated, we'll just go with donating our flowers. Just wanted to look into this just in case though. Thanks!!

I had real flowers for my wedding and I don't think I would've wanted to buy flowers that were previously used for someone else's wedding. The items for weddings are usually done a day or two in advance so I would worry how lively the flowers would look a day or two after the wedding.

Don’t sell them. Donate them to local funeral home for families who can’t afford flowers otherwise.

I agree with Michelle. Any flowers of ours that aren’t taken by local family will be donated to a local nursing or funeral home.

A hospital would appreciate them too

A domestic violence shelter may be nice too, in addition to nursing homes, funeral homes, and hospitals. They could give bouquets to the families and have some fresh flowers throughout the shelter/safe house to brighten up the place.

Excellent idea. They may even have someone willing to pick them up if you call ahead to make arrangements.

Sounds like it would be pretty complicated because real flowers don't last very long... we donated ours to a local nursing home the day after the wedding.

I long ago deleted the websites, but there are a number of organizations in NYC that will take real flowers and donate them to any of the above mentioned places. They will rearrange them so they don't look like wedding flowers.

A quick google should find them.
