How to practice dancing in my wedding dress

Bridget, on July 22, 2015 at 8:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

The wedding's a year out. I have the dress and we've settled on two songs we both like. Crazy Girl - Eli Young band (his choice) and Hooked on a Feeling- Blue Swede (my choice). Anyway that's besides the point. The question I pose is this: We're going to have dance lessons, does anyone have any suggestions of what I should wear to these lessons so I can prepare to dance in my wedding dress?! Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

Bridget, don't forget to change your avatar - rings often signal trolls, and you'll get more responses with a picture!

Question is: what does your dress look like? If it's a mermaid style, that's one thing - but if it's A-line or ballgown, you really don't need to even worry about it. So what's the style?

I made sure to wear shoes that were the same height so I got used to dancing in heels. Since I don't want FH to see the dress before the wedding but, like you, I wanted to know how much space the dress would take up, I put on the slip one night when we were practicing in the living room. It gave us both a good idea of how close we should stand when we dance. Otherwise, just wear something comfortable to the lessons so you can focus on learning the steps.

I would say definitely wear the same kind of shoes you will be wearing

It's a ballgown style but not super big.I still have to find shoes but they're next on my list! And I like the idea of trying to figure out how far apart we should stand for the dance. Thank you for the advice!!

Maybe you can try having a friend come watch one of your lessons, then try to practice some of the moves with your friend, while wearing your dress? I think the fact that you actually have your dress already is a great advantage -- you should have plenty of time to get the dancing down, and also adjust it for your dress.

I'm just over 2 months out and hoping to squeeze in some lessons, as well! Keep us posted on your progress Smiley smile
