How to phrase online rsvp request?

Zulander, on July 26, 2016 at 4:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

We have decided to go with online RSVP only and I am wondering how to word the RSVP option on the invitation. Something like "For further details and RSVP please see www.insertwebsitename.com"? I assume that similar to paper RSVP, I should also put a requested RSVP date? I'm at a loss. Thanks!

I think if that's your only RSVP option, you're going to be making a LOT of calls...

I would consider the option of RSVP online and through the mail. Some of your older guests may not want to RSVP online (or even your younger guests) But you can put "please visit our wedding website www.website.com for more wedding details or to RSVP online"

I have had two friends do RSVP online with great success in the last year. We are putting "RSVP online at www.ourweddingwebsite.com."

We don't have any computer illiterate people on our guest list, but if we did, our option was to order just enough RSVP cards for those people.

We did the online RSVPs and it worked out well! The Moms would let me know about the people who would RSVP with them/didn't understand technology, and I would go on the back end of the online list and check them as a yes. So do be prepared about a little extra work, but i still feel a lot less work than the mail-ins. I had a high rate of responses on their owns, and of course the ones you have to keep reminding to RSVP, but that's normal.

How I phrased it was pretty close to how you have in in you OP.

"To RSVP, view our registries, book a hotel, or for more information please visit: website"

Definitely still include an "RSVP by" date!

Thanks for the suggestions! I don't know why I was having a hard time figuring out the wording. We're definitely only doing online RSVP. We have only have two people on our guest list who don't use the internet (both of our grandmothers). But because of health issues, neither will be traveling to our wedding. We'll make calls directly to them obviously.

A few friends have done online rsvps with no problem. Both had less than a handful of guests not rsvp on time or online. The people that didn't do it wouldn't have rsvp'd on time via traditional/paper route so it wasn't an online issue. I would definitely put a date on it and obviously if you have a password for the site, that. I like the wording you have in mind.

@OhHappy: a lot of people have trouble checking a box and mailing a card as it is, much less asking them to get online and do it. Plus, a lot of people, even those who use tech every day, are still NOT tech literate. RSVPs are still going to probably get a higher response rate via mail than electronically.

We did an online RSVP, overall people have done really well with it! Out of a guest list of 180, I'd say about 100 RSVP'd online with no poking or prodding... I got a few calls about it, but it was really easy to just get their RSVP over the phone and input it myself. I have about 8 people left that haven't RSVP'd but I have a feeling they would have been trouble with a paper invite regardless. It's really easy to walk them through the RSVP on your phone too, I recommend it!

In today's modern society, I feel everyone knows how to lookup a simple site. I too have decided to go with online RSVP only and for those I don't get, I'll follow up with, but really lets be real. It's probably just the great grandparents that won't know how to RSVP online.
