So according to my caterer all steaks will have to be cooked the same. So I decided on medium well. Do you think most people will be ok with it? RSVPs have been coming in and everyone picked steak. So help me out how do you all like yours? I'm interested to know what the majority like.

We are having steaks as an option also and our venue said they will cook then all medium and if some guests want it cooked more they can throw it back on, maybe this can be an option for you?

Imo, by the time everything is plated and served in that quantity, a steak cooked to medium rare will look like a medium steak, because of the internal temperature of the meat.

absolutely nothing over medium, or the steak lovers are just going to wish they had ordered chicken.

I agree with medium at the most. i personally prefer my steak medium well, but as nikki pointed out the steak will continue to rise in temp as it rests.

im surprised a chef in the bunch said medium well- most chefs i know would shed a tear if anyone asked them to cook a steak above medium!

A good piece of beef should be cooked at MAXIMUM medium. I would be very upset if I ordered steak and it came medium well.

This thread made me so happy. When I first met FH's family, we were having steaks, and they all ordered theirs well done and looked at me like I was crazy for saying "medium rare." I feel so validated right now! Lmao

@Kelsey I haven't stepped foot in a commercial kitchen in years and I almost shed a tear when I read that. You cook a steak to medium well in a mass production, you may as well burn it and save yourself the trouble.

FH and I only eat our steak very rare so we would probably push our plate away at a medium well piece of meat. Might as well eat a burger. That being said, I think medium is a safe enough choice.

Medium rare to medium. Steak continues to cook itself due to the internal temperature, and with having to plate and serve everything and likely have some plates under warmers for a bit... The steaks will be a bit past what they were cooked to. I think that most people who really love steak and would choose it for their entree probably tend to prefer medium rare to medium also.

MzRosa: when I first started dating FH- he was kind of a medium person.... five years later he's firmly in the "RARE" camp. I haven't converted him to black and blue- or just blue- but well- rare is a good start.

You're right any steak lover that gets medium well is going to be SUPER cranky about it.

I'm a medium rare person, but it can also depend on the cut of steak! a really marbled cut of meat (like a ribeye) can be better at medium or even a little higher where cuts with less fat really shouldn't go above that. The marbling kind of melts into the meat more in that, whereas on a filet since there is little to no marbling it just dries out.

No, I would go with medium. I like medium rare but I can eat medium and enjoy it. I wouldn't enjoy medium well...
