So according to my caterer all steaks will have to be cooked the same. So I decided on medium well. Do you think most people will be ok with it? RSVPs have been coming in and everyone picked steak. So help me out how do you all like yours? I'm interested to know what the majority like.

Did you send out/make your RSVP card yet? If not you should maybe mention that the steak will be medium (for the love of steak please don't do medium well). I would appreciate a heads up as I would expect a carter to cook a steak more on the side of medium rare and would probably order it. But if I was told ahead of time it would be cooked medium I would get something else.

Medium at a minimum. Medium well is just an abomination to steaks. And it is only going to get worse with a large quantity.

What cut is your steak? In regards to temp, it definitely matters.

@mauiwowie I agree it defiantly does matter if it's prime rib you always want to go up a temp.

@nicolio defiantly do not go above medium with a strip steak. I would assume going to a wedding it would be either med rare or medium.

For strips, medium-rare is your best bet. This is an easy cut to overcook, and since the fat isn't marbled (like a filet or ribeye), it dries out really quickly.

I eat mine rare, I wouldn't eat it if it was over medium.

Agreeing with PP- steak is supposed to fight back a little on the plate. I love medium and under.

Definitely medium. Don't go past medium! With carryover cooking, it will likely be more done anyway by the time it is served.

I agree with everyone, medium is the best choice. Alyson's suggestion is great - are you able to have a bit more detail about it in your RSPV cards? Maybe include a little insert with the menu. That way, if you happen to have the odd guest that only eats steaks well-done with ketchup, they'll know not to order the (medium) steak and will order the chicken instead Smiley smile

A local restaurant has a chart on their menu that describes what they mean by rare, medium rare, medium, etc. So for medium well is says "light pink middle" or whatever. Under well done, it says "order chicken" which always cracks me up. Anyway, I don't like steak but if I had to eat it I'd order medium well BUT since you're offering chicken too, I think you'd be safe with medium and that would probably appeal to the real steak lovers more. If you personally want yours well done, I think it's fair for you to ask that only yours is well done. If that's your biggest bridezilla moment, so be it (my bridezilla moment was that the chicken dish included mushroom and I wanted one without mushroom because mushrooms are gross and look like little penises).

Medium would be the max. Cooking steak in bulk tends to over cook so I would actually say medium rare. Steak lovers definitely don't want over cooked steak. Those I know who like their steak well done have told me they don't order steak at functions for this very reason.

I'd go medium. Its the middle of the road and will appeal to most people. Since New York Strip is a decent cut of meat, cooking it anything more than medium then why bother having a nicer cut?
