How to determine who gets the Centerpiece?

G, on October 13, 2011 at 12:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

I am trying to figure out who to pick a couple at the table to give the centerpiece to so no one fights over them? Any ideas would be helpful? thanks

You could do whoever has been married the longest at the table.

Maybe the couple with the anniversary closest to 10/22, or to be fair to the single people, birthday closest to 10/22.

I can't say I've ever heard of guests fighting over the center pieces and I've been to some pretty snazzy events...

But I guess if I had to make a "rule" for this it would be the matriarch at each table.

We had just a few people who wanted to take our centerpeices. I let my bridal party all have one. We took some of the flowers to place on the graves to our grandparents. The rest, we took to a local nursing home and share the joy with its patients.

We had 13 centerpieces and 13 intown couples (most of our folks were OOT guests) so we alerted the 13 intowners to take the centerpieces ahead of time. We took our church flowers to a nursing home the next day and they deconstructed them into multiple little arrangements to alot of folks got flowers delivered to their rooms.

Sabrina when I originally read the post I had this image in my head of two blue haired old ladies with the skirts and knee highs on rolling around on the dance floor duking it out - flower petals flying every where until there was nothing left but the stem.

My vases are borrowed from my florist, so I guess I just have flowers to hand out.

I've never been to a wedding where I wanted to take the centerpieces home...

I doubt you'll have a fight on your hands over it.

*cough* Highest bidder. Smiley smile Demand is high, supply is low. =P

I haven't taken home centerpieces before or thought if I could. And I never thought much about what the bride would do. I like the idea of breaking them (flowers) down and donating them to a nursing home.

What would you do with the centerpieces otherwise? Are they fresh flowers or ornate vases with fake branches/flowers/ect in them?

I think it's really strange that people would want or fight over centerpieces. It would never occur to me that taking them would even be an option.

I've heard other people say they have actually seen/had guests STEAL centerpieces, which just baffles me!! I am using the venue's vases for mine, so I'll be pretty pissed if anyone steals them. And as for the rest of the supplies, I plan on just listing them on craigslist to help any other brides on a budget looking for stuff.

Depending on whatever "rule" you go with, I would just make sure the person you are gifting it to actually WANTS it, because it would suck if someone at the table really wanted it but it was given to someone who was just gonna throw it in the garbage just because they were the oldest or whatever.

Maybe just do a first come, first serve thing after the reception?

Check with your DJ for ideas! Since they are usually turned to to serve as the "go to person" to get rid of them, they usually have a bunch of ideas on hand for this task. (At least we do!)

I am just going to put a sticker under one menu at each table and have the DJ announce whomever has the sticker gets the centerpiece

I've never been to a wedding were the couple determine who gets them, but yes I've seen people take them EVEN after the DJ make announcements not to take them, 'cause usually the couple borrowed them, which is the case with mine, so I added the question on FAQ section and said not to take them.

I've never been to a wedding with the hope of coming out with a centerpiece, I find it really strange that people would take them or let alone fight over them.

I guess you can ask each table a question about you and FH, whoever gets it right, gets the centerpiece, idk. good luck

My experience has been different from some other ladies. Ive been to many weddings where people requested the centerpieces. Its actually quite a burden to try to get them all home. Especially since I have a destination wedding. So I will gladly give mine to guests. The vases however I will keep and use in my business or sell them in a lot.

Hmmm...IDK about that. I am not doing anything special, who ever claims it gets it. If they end up staying, I am donating them.

I have been thinking about that since i plan on making my own centerpieces what i was gonna do with them when everything was said and done and now i feel alot better knowing that i was not the only one wondering about what to do with them

guess now i can put that on my to do list so that way i can keep track of what my ideas are.
