How to Decorate the Flower Girl Basket

RZ_ToBe, on January 12, 2018 at 2:59 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12
Hey all! I got this cute basket whilst shopping with one of my bridesmaids for Christmas about 2 months ago. Her youngest daughter is my flower girl ❤

We thought it would be really fun to have her toss seashells gently to the side (she'll be 8, so I trust she'll be able to do this) of the isle at the beach. I'll have my isle decorated in a way that people won't be trying to leave down the isle after the ceremony and step on said shells!

Anyway, I'm wondering if and how I should decorate this basket. All I can think of is putting a bow or one of my paper flowers on the front. Help!

I think a bow in one of your wedding colors would be nice. While the cat is super adorable, I somehow think it would be too chaotic to attach her to the basket as decor.Smiley tongue

I love the seashell idea. That's the first I've heard of it. I have a similar basket I'm using that was a gift basket from Christmas. My plan is to hot glue some fabric on the inside. It can be your main color. This would be helpful, so the seashells don't get stuck in the weaving. Another idea would be to hot glue some shells around the border of the basket. You can even line the border with colored ribbon and glue the shells on top of that so they stand out from the brown of the basket. For the center where the ribbon meets you can put your bow or main flower. Which ever you like better.

    Hope this helps. Smiley smile

Some ribbon around the middle and handle if you would want. I actually might leave it plain, has a beach type look.

Ribbon IdeaHow to Decorate the Flower Girl Basket 2

This is what I did to decorate a basket I used to use. It's a narrow satin ribbon that I probably picked up from JoAnn's. Given the weave of your basket you could probably use a lightly larger ribbon and weave it into the basket weave. Maybe get a wired ribbon in one of your wedding color to tie at the base on each side of the handle? I'd secure it with a little hot glue to be on the safe side. If you want to wrap the handle in ribbon I highly recommend using some glue so that the ribbon stays in place and doesn't slide to either side.

I like the natural color of the basket but you could spray paint it white. You can get some shells at Michaels (or just from the beach if you have access) and hot glue them around the rim. You can get star fish and hot glue them on the outsides of the handles, or the front and back of the basket. I would keep it simple. If you goodle "beach wedding flower girl basket" and click on "images" you'll see tons of pictures and ideas.

If you are going to decorate the basket, make sure your choice of decor elements are large enough. Tiny narrow ribbon will have no impact. I would keep the basket a natural color and add one bow and a starfish on each side of the handle.
