HOw to deal with a difficult maid of honor

I have chosen to have two maids of honor for my wedding. My sister and my best friend. My sister lives in NC and, due to location, is physically unable to help with a lot of the wedding planning. My best friend lives here near me. Now my best friend seems to have no time for any of the wedding planning or bridal shower planning. On several occasions I have tried reaching out to her saying we are having a crafting party (DIY wedding all the way here!), my mom has reached out asking for help with the bridal shower, and the only responses we have gotten back is that she is too busy or why is there is a rush since the wedding/shower isn't till October/September. Another bridesmaid and myself went shopping for the bridesmaid dress and the maid of honor in question has yet to get hers (though she has had many choice words about the color, cut, and style). Im to the point of frustration. Honestly i'm to the point of asking her to not even coming to the wedding...am I wrong for feeling this way?

Watch out for your expectations of other people. You say you would be fine to do whatever for her, that's YOU. Not everyone is the same way. Trust me, I have had to realize this myself and it's tough.

Give her a deadline for ordering the dress.

@heather...never thought of that. I guess sometimes it is hard to remember that not everyone thinks like you do nor would do the same things you would do. Thank you for that.

I have been a bridesmaid 17 times (27 dresses ain't got nuttin on me!) I have seen the good, the bad, and the VERY VERY ugly. I have helped with crafts and DIY projects, shelled out crazy amounts of money (one wedding alone cost me almost 3 grand and she was divorced a year and a half later), and attended the engagement parties, the lingerie parties, the bridal showers, and the bachelorette parties. I have gotten dresses I will never ever wear again, my hair done, my nails done, my feet done, and my make-up done. Some of the requests were totally understandable, others were downright ridiculous.

I have 4 bridesmaids and 2 maids of honor. Have some been there and helped more than the others? Yes of course. But at the end of the day they are my best friends and I want them there standing by my side no matter what. Some bridesmaids want to be totally involved, others do not.

Only one of my bridesmaids has gotten her dress, and my wedding is a week before yours. CONT

When they picked their dresses out (I allowed them to get different dresses in the same color) they were told by David's Bridal when they needed to order by. The dates were in June, so I'm not stressing about it. It doesn't mean they love me any less, it just means they haven't ordered them yet. I learned a long time ago that just because something is a priority to you, doesn't mean its top on everyone's list. I think sometimes brides get sensitive and take things personally when they shouldn't. At then end of the day, I'm getting married to the man of my dreams and surrounded by the people I love and that's all that matters.

Give a dead line a week before the actual date

My deadline was the end of march here I am middle of April one ordered yesterday and one is supposedly ordering next week.

Out of 5 BM's 2 ordered by the date they were supposed to.

The only reason im stressing the dress is because its a limited edition dress at JCP. Im BM dress is ivory since my dress is black. If i could find a ivory BM dress for under $100 that we didn't have to order off line i wouldn't stress it. Otherwise totally agree with you two one that.

If that's the case I think your best bet is to be honest with her. She may be totally unaware of the stress she is causing you. Or there may be a few other reasons - money, family drama, or other issues you may not know about. You won't know until you have a heart to heart with her about it. She may not be wanting to trouble you with her issues because you've already got a lot on your plate. I don't think she's intentionally trying to be difficult, but you'll never know unless you talk to her about it.....

I haven't had much physical help with planning, but I have had 3 of my BMs and my MOH listen to me debate chair sashes and colors, and ask me questions without me having to bring up wedding stuff when I'm dying to talk about it, and offer to help and I keep turning them down because I'm a total control freak Smiley smile But I hear what you're saying- even just asking a question of "hey what's your next wedding task?" and having a simple conversation with you is extremely appreciated. My advice- find someone who IS being supportive, and call them when you need mental support! It's easier and so much less hurtful to you when you turn to someone you know will be supportive instead of hoping someone will be and being disappointed. And you can always turn to us WW gals!! We love to share the excitement of little things and help make small decisions!!

I seriously think that something else is going on here. have a chat with her and find out what it is so you can move on before this gets really messy. also, let her know that even though you love her and want her to be the MOH, if it is too much you understand and she can be a bridesmaid instead.
