How superstitious are you? Wedding Version!

Lynnie, on September 13, 2019 at 11:00 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

Happy Friday the 13th!! In honor of all our brides and grooms braving the superstitions and tying the knot today, we want to know just how superstitious you are when it comes to wedding traditions!

How many of these wedding superstitions do you buy into? Share your total score!

- Rain on your wedding day, a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe, and finding a spider in the bride's dress will bring you good luck. (Give yourself 1 point per superstition!)

- Wearing a veil over your face, ringing bells, and carrying the bride over the threshold will all help you ward off bad luck and evil spirits. (1 point per superstition)

- It's bad luck to see your fiancé(e) on the wedding day before the ceremony, or to start using your wedding gifts before the wedding!

- Gifting the newlyweds a knife will cause their relationship to be severed, unless you tape a penny to the blade that the couple can then return as "payment" so the knife is no longer considered a gift!

- The person who catches the bouquet or garter will be the next to get married.

- If you bury a bottle of bourbon upside-down at your ceremony site one month before the wedding, you'll have beautiful weather on your wedding day!

I don't believe in any of these aha but rain on my wedding day would have made me mad anyway since I had an outdoor ceremony

Believe them, nah but I did them for the tradition of it.

    We did six:
Rained (I mean it was a tropical storm not really a choice)
    Lucky sixpence
Wore my blusher over my face
    Rang bells
carried me over the threshold and the penny in our knifeblock

I haven’t even heard of a few of these and I definitely don’t believe them, but I think they’re fun.

I do believe a light rain is good luck on a wedding day but the rest doesn't phase me at all. I might consider burying a bottle of bourbon so that I have an extra bottle if I feel the need for hard liquor that weekend. LOL

I was very superstitious about my first marriage and that one ended in disaster. This time, I'm not worrying about following superstitions.

Neither of us are superstitious, so we’ll be doing a first look & even getting some family portraits before the ceremony.

I’ve heard most of these but the only one that I actually couldn’t help but follow was not seeing each other before the ceremony 😂. But I felt that it was more traditional than back luck😂.

I’m not superstitious but I do like some traditions. I wouldn’t mind rain on my wedding day (I LOVE rain and wouldn’t mind doing a few rain shots at the end. We’re not doing a first look because I feel that this is why most people come to the ceremony for. I’ll be wearing the veil over my face because I like it that way lol and I never even HEARD of the knife thing. Does that include a cake knife?

I'm not superstitious at all. FH and I are getting married on December 13th, which is also a Friday, so we're not worried Smiley laugh

I don’t believe in any of them, but our parents are requiring that we not see each other before the wedding day and FH bought into it and is going to be staying at his friend’s or his parent’s the night before >.> he also wants to fireman carry me over the threshold of our apartment after, instead of just carrying me like a normal person or letting me walk haha.

you can bet, if There is a spider in my dress I’m tearing that thing (the dress) apart to get away from it (serious arachnophobia) so that had better not happen. That would not be good luck at all for me.

None of ‘em but I like the pearls being goodluck one.

Also is it bad luck if you find a spider in your dress and then set your dress on fire? 🕷 🔥

I am actually generally superstitious about everything, but after my first marriage I’ve lost most of the wedding superstition beliefs. It rained, we didn’t see each other before the ceremony, he carried me across the threshold of our hotel room that night, and I had caught the bouquet at a wedding before mine and was the next person to marry. Even after all those things that were supposed to bring me luck, things did not work out. However, I also believe that if I didn’t have that relationship, I wouldn’t have met my fiancé and wouldn’t ever have been as happy as I am now. This time around the main thing I’m following is no one is knowing about my dress. There are literally six people who know what it looks like other than me (my son, mother, sisters and besties) and I will not share the style, color or even length with anyone.

I didn’t follow a single one of those superstitions but, I did catch the bouquet at the last wedding I had attended and then I met my husband 3 months later. Maybe it was just a coincidence, who knows.

The only one I believe in is catching the bouquet. My sister caught the bouquet at my aunt's wedding, was the next to get married. I caught my sister's bouquet, and I'm now the next one getting married.

My family also has this superstition about getting married in your hometown. Everyone in my family (mom's side and dad's) who has gotten married in their hometown (one of the spouses hometowns) they've stayed together in a long and happy marriage. The 3 aunts/uncles who got married somewhere other than their hometown, have unfortunately gotten divorced.

The only one we followed was not seeing each other the day of the wedding.

I also made sure to have "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", just for myself.

...We used stuff before the wedding. They were on the registry because we needed things, lol.

That said, we're both fairly superstitious (actors and sports fans), but most of it we dismissed.
