How soon should you order your wedding dress?

It really depends on where you're getting it from and what dress it is. I ordered a dress from David's Bridal and it came in in one month. Other dresses from David's Bridal I've heard can take 4-6 months or even 9-12 months. In my opinion, I think the more expensive dresses (especially at boutiques) take longer to come in. If you order one from Azazie, I believe they say 4-6 weeks. To be safe, I would start looking now if your wedding date is August 2020

My wedding is 11/09/19. I tried on and ordered my wedding dress on 12/03/18, which was good because it took 4-6 months to come in, then I had time to find my veil and get alterations. I just picked up my dress last Friday and have 18 days until my wedding day!!

I would say the timing depending on if you are ordering or taking the dress home that day. If you are ordering, there is no problem with getting your dress ordered upwards of a year before your day. If it is a "take-home" dress, then 6-8 months before sounds reasonable.

BUT it is your day and your dress. If you find your dress and still have 1.5 years before your wedding, you sometimes can't say no or walk away (:

I ordered my dress from a bridal boutique in Austin on 9/28/19 and just got a call that it will be shipping on 2/3/20 and arriving within 10 business days. I'll have about 8 months to get my alterations figured out (getting married 10/10/20). I'll start that process sometime over the summer.

Our wedding is August 8, 2020.
I ordered my dress in May 2019. It will take 10 months to arrive, so I don't have it yet.
I started earlier than I needed to, but I would say at this point you should definitely be looking to purchase soon since your wedding is August as well.

Our wedding is 10/10/2020 and I bought my dress a couple months ago in August.

I mainly went that early because I wanted to get some dress shopping in with my sister before she went back to school and didn't expect to buy anything. But I ended up falling in love with a sample sale! It'll be in storage until June/July, when I start alterations.

The shop told me that new dresses can take anywhere from 4-8 months to come in, and they typically like to start alterations 3-4 months out.
