Quite a few people from FH's side have been shocked when we tell them we are getting married on July 1, 2012. They keep saying how soon it is and blah blah. We have been together for almost 7 years and have two children together. My thinking on the whole thing is -It's about damn time! I figured about 2 years is a decent amount of time for an engagement, but I wanted it in summer so it'll be 1 1/2 years. My family, on the other hand, thinks its perfectly acceptable. So what is an acceptable amount of time for an engagement? Are they just crazy? Well, they are crazy, but that's besides the point lol Smiley tongue

That's not too soon at all!

My ex proposed to me in July and we had a large wedding that November.

My daughter got engaged in November 2010 and we did a full wedding for them in July 2010.

So, a year and a half, that's plenty of time.

I had approximately a month long engagement. I see nothing wrong with a year and a half.

A year and a half seems perfectly fine to me.

My first wedding, I got engaged in November and married in June. Second wedding, the engagement was about 14 months, but that reflected a need to save for it plus our wanting to have it in the fall. Really, the only disadvantage of a short engagement is that some venues may be unavailable if you are booking at the last minute.

When we get married we will have been engaged for about a year and a month. He proposed on 8/9/10 and we will be getting married 9/2/11. So your 1.5 yr engagement is perfectly acceptable.

Whatever feels appropriate to YOU...that's all that matters! My friends had a 10 day engagement...so don't worry about it lol. They are perfectly happy how it all went down and have no regrets!
