how much to register for?

soon to be..., on October 6, 2009 at 11:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Is there a rule of thumb or recommendation for how much to register for? We are having a shower (about 30 people probably) and about 300 guests at the wedding--- is it done based on how much the wedding costs? or is there a set amount per person? Just trying to get a ballpark idea here--- thanks!

I'm not sure if there is a set amount but if you are having a large wedding I'd say you should have a large registry with a variety of items priced from inexpensive to over the top so you have a large selection for every guests budget. You may want to register at a couple different places (like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Macy's, etc) to give people more options.

I would say register at a couple of places. The most I have seen is three, I will probabaly do two. However, my only suggestion is make sure you get a variety of prices in there, one registry I just looked at almost everything was over 100.00! That was crazy. Good luck. Smiley smile Have fun!

Yes like JessicaLyn said, variety is great. I registered and Target and JC Penneys and found that Target had the greatest variety of items for all different price ranges. I have stuff that's as low as $8 all the way up to $200.

I definitely agree that variety is important--- but is there a total dollar amount per guest (average) to hit? just curious--- thanks!

I agree that you should register for a variety of price ranges. You can update your registry's periodically. I recomend that you monitor them. If you see that most items are gone, you can add items.

I know at target, they have recommended number of gifts in each price range. its good to register for alot in every price range so people have more to chose from. and register for more then you need.

When I registered at one place she told me to register for as many items as we are having people. Because she said there have been plenty of times where guests come in to buy something of a registry and everything has already been bought. We didn't register for that many but we registered for a good bit. So if you are having a lot of people, have a long registry

Register for a ton of stuff! I am doing Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot and Crate-n-barrell. Home Depot I am so excited about... I will be getting my ceiling fans, outdoor lights, etc. We are having a couples shower so we have to have some manly stuff! HAHA! Honeymoon registry is good too!

Register for whatever you need or want at a variety of prices. A lot of times people will still look at your registry after the wedding when shopping for birthdays or Christmas, just something to keep in mind.

My honeymoon registry recommended 2 per guest. Sounds like a lot especially since you have 300. I would register for the things you want and also for gift cards for those places.

Ok I have a guild in one of my books let me see for about 40 people for a shower it goes like this

    under $25 -12

    $25-$50 - 17

    $50-75 - 18

    75-100 - 6

    100-150- 4

    150-200 - 3

Now for a wedding for 300 people it's like this

    25-50 - 80

    50-75 - 110

    75-100 - 80

    100-150 - 80

    150-200 - 14

    over $200 - 18

what I was going to do was add the shower with the wedding gifts and do on registry. Hope that helps

As far as how much your items should be...I agree with everyone else here. You want to make sure you scan every price range. Bigger, more expensive items, like a 10 piece cookware set, can be purchased as a group gift. Now as to how many items to register for...take your guest amount - 300 - and double it, maybe even triple it. Most guests will purchase 2 items for you, but consider the small stuff...like cooking utensils...one guest will probably buy every piece. Also, remember the Rule of 3 for linens and towels: 1 in use, 1 in the cabinet, and 1 in the wash. It makes for a nice rotation and you're always covered for guest stays/visits. Have fun!

If I have 300 guests, that means there are about 150 couples--- so should the registry be for 150 couples (assuming each couple will gave one gift) or for 300?? so many things to think about!!!

It was recommended to us yesterday when we went and did ours to pick about 2-3 items per guest you expect. And to make sure to have a wide range of prices. If someone buys you an expensive item they'll only buy one probably, and then people who buy you the smaller things will probably pick up more than one.

Smiley smile Keep it simple, Soon to be. Take the amount of Invitations you sent out...now double it. Done. Worst case, your registry runs low a few weeks before the big day...you guys run out and scan some more!
