How much to budget for invitations?

Abigail, on June 24, 2011 at 12:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

I am having around 80 people at my wedding.

about 7 of them I live with, and that count includes kids. So I probably only looking at around at most 40 invites. How much is average to spend on them?

Like say if your ordering them from vistaprint?

Check out www.costofwedding.com to get an idea of "average" prices. I understand VistaPrint has some nice packages, but be careful, their hidden charges often add up.

    Good luck!

I can't speak to vistaprint, but for 90 DIY invitations from Michaels (with response cards and thank you cards), I think I spent $120. Don't forget to calculate postage as well. If the invitations are square or heavy the cost of postage will go up. So you've got invite postage, response card postage, thank you card postage. I ended up budgeting $366 on all printed materials (including programs) for my wedding with a guestlist of 150.

I got 100 invitations including response cards from www.invitationsbydavidsbridal.com for $170. Andrea H is right about making sure to leave room in your budget for postage and thank you notes as well.

Vistaprint invites start at about $1 each, and you order them in sets of 20. Then there is shipping which isnt too much. Sometimes they run specials where if you spend $50 shipping is FREE!!!

I got 80 STDs, envelopes, notebook, address labels, and an adress stamp for $60!! Great sale at that time!!

The cost of invitations depends on your selections. If you are on a budget, I recommend flat cards, or simple designs. The more folds, embellishments, etc, the more they will cost. I know a lot of brides here on WW go for vistaprint, but they really are not good quality printing at all. You can get something 10x nicer for the same price, sometimes even less. I advise you to find a consultant in your area who can help narrow down the selections based on your budget and event needs. Or-- if you can find digital printing services in your area, this is the most cost-effective option for small quantities like 40 pieces.

I ordered mines from vponsale and that includes everything (invitation, rsvp, reception), and they are not plain. Shipping is free. I paid $100 for 60, I'm sure u may not need 80 invitations, They do sell 40 so that would be $68 , shipping free. They have more variety then vistaprint!

Vista Print (VP) doesn't really have any "hidden" charges or fees as MCDJCarlos stated. But yes, their invites are about a $1 a piece. As for goskell saying their quality isn't good -- just ask the brides here who have used VP and see how happy they are with what they got and how the product was. Lots of brides here rave about VP. Just saying.

You could also try vponsale.com - you can get 40 invitations for $42 and that includes free response cards and free matching envelops. They have some really nice invites at this site and some brides on here have used them too -- one recently in fact and her invites and such were very pretty.

    Good luck!!

I like VP... nice enough for me, and I don't need to pay for the ink, or the headache of paper jams.

and you can ask them to send you a sample so you can see and feel the material

but if you are looking to save on money, I think it is a great deal for something that goes in the garbage.... always order a few extra just in case...

    50 invite $25.14 (I have an email for 50% off invites) (40 = $21.65)

rsvp postcards $6.50 (free postcards... deal in link below)

    total = $31.64

I'm in the minority on this as I have a sick obsession with nice stationery. Cost break down for my 80 guests as follows:

Vera Wang Invites & RSVP Cards: $1300

Vera Wang Thank You Cards: $150

All of the above are with thermography printing.

Save the Date Magnets w Enclosure Cards from MagnetStreet: $200

Rehearsal Dinner & After Party Invites & RSVP Cards from Zazzle: $300

For just 40 people I'd go with Vistaprint or your local Office Depot or craft store because now you can buy very pretty invitations that you can print right from your computer. I'm sorry, I would not spend alot on invitations because most people just throw them away anyway and remember the more embelishments and layers you have, your postage goes way up!!! I got EVERYTHING through Vistaprint and was very happy.

@Andrene...OMG yes girlfriend you did splurge! No way. But we all have our thing we splurged on, yours happend to be the paper stuff Smiley smile

Your budget for invitations can vary widely, depending on what types of invitation you love and what kind of an impression you want to leave on your guests.

Thanks ladies. WW won't let me post the PDF proofs so you can see the intricate details of the finished product so here are stock photos from the net. What makes them so expensive (aside from the fact they are by Vera) are the blind embossed design, thermography, vellum sleeve and french envelope.

I also went a little crazy in the program department. I used boxed scroll invitations to create the programs. I couldn't get these in the Vera design so I had a company in India use the motif from the invite and just matched the overall look of the Vera design. What I love about the scrolls are that they are translucent fabric. I spent about $300 for these. I got them from India. Had I bought them in the states they would have run me a good $1000 so I'm very happy with the savings.

I did mine through Vistaprint, I actually bought the livingcircle deal $10 for $50 worth of stuff so my invites, response cards, labels, and envelope seals cost me $10 (deal) plus $10 for shipping. For 25 invites!

I only did 28 invitations, so I went a little nuts. I made them myself and did pocketfolds from Cardsandpockets.com

After everything totalled up, I spent about $70 on the invites themselves and about $30 on postage (invite and return envelopes).

I think average prices are $2-6 per invitation, depending on what you want, plus postage.
