how much time for dancing do you have?

Mayra, on August 2, 2012 at 10:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

So our wedding is going to be 4 hours total. Ceremony included. Yesterday I did my timeline and with everything added I only ended up with 45 mins of dancing. I know my family is going to hate that bc they love dancing and 45 mins is nothing. I know I'm going to hear it for a long time. I tried juggling a few things see if I could add more time but I couldn't. How much time do you have....Especially for my latina girls who know how much we love dancing...

I had about 3 solid hours of dancing. The reception was around 4 1/2 hours but if you take out dinner and special dances it left us with 3 hours.

We had about 2 hours of dancing.. We had a 5 hour event, but I didn't have any of the other wedding stuff… no cake cutting, no bouquet/garter toss, toasts were during salads, First dance was while guests were finishing up dinner.

One suggestion to optimize dancing is to put all the ceremonial stuff together. So when you guys enter the reception, do the toasts, the dances, the cake cutting all together. Our band told us that it's hard to get people to start and stop and that it cuts out time and discourages people from getting back up on the dance floor.

Personally, I would like ALL of my hours to be dancing, but for some silly reason, our guests expect to eat! On a more serious note, we decided to cut out some of the traditional stuff to maximize the amount of time we have to dance and party. We have a 6 hour rental total, but after we do the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner, that doesn't really leave very much time. We are planning to do the toasts during dinner, then once the food is cleared, begin to move. After an hour, do a short break for cake cutting, then starting the music right back up as people have dessert.

We are also thinking about having an after party, for those who want to continue the fun.... so that's always an idea!!

I had three hours of solid dancing.

Then we had an after party that lasted until 5am (I didn't last that long).

    After party!

You can probably cut the time on some of those things too - 5 minutes for the bridal party to enter, 5 minutes for each toast, 5 minutes for each toss, etc.

I was thinking on eliminating the presentation of the bridal party and us...would that be acceptable...Also I was wondering if I could do that bouquet toss as I'm walking out the isle...Since my ceremony is at the same place as my reception...

You definitely want to be presented as husband and wife!!! You can have everyone walk out quickly and maybe not announce their names - but you deserve to be announced!

We get 3 hours because family & friends are dance maniacs!!

If you're doing a program, maybe you can skip announcing the bridal party?

We eliminated garter/bouquet toss but my whole thing is also 6 hours
