How much should you spend on a wedding?

Anita, on August 21, 2018 at 5:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 21
How much is to much? How much is to little for a wedding? I think it's totally up to the bride but remember you have to take care of business after the special day. My wedding budget is at mid point, not to small not to large but classy and memorable. It's my first time, so it's super special to me. As a breast cancer survivor, my wedding is a blessing. I plan to have a candle lit for all survivors and others who are in recovery💞💞💞

There's no magic number. Whatever is within budget for both people getting married. The bride isn't the only person getting married and not every couple has a bride. Congratulations on remission and happy planning!

    I love that candle idea!

But I guess it depends on how much you both want to spend on the wedding, because life still happens afterward. We're spending as little as possible, but enough to have a nice, memorable event. But we're also not overly rich, we make a good living together, but it's factory money.

It depends on the individuals to set a budget that is comfortable for them. Some couples may prefer to put a down payment on a house or travel instead of a very elegant wedding. From a court house wedding to a castle wedding. Everyone must allow for the extra wedding cost (little things that you forget about) when setting a budget. I am definitely Bling on BUDGET when planning our wedding. Because we definitely have to live after the wedding, however we want our special day to be very us.

We are spending way too much on our wedding. I think on the national average our budget is in a high middle level but since being on this forum it seems very high and I have been so impressed with how people have kept their budget low and wish I had found better ways to save. The problem is the area we are getting married has high venue fees, many places we looked at had $50k min for food and beverage, we finally found one that was about $20k, which we are very happy about but it still upsets me thinking how much is being spent on one day, especially when I see how well people have done planning less expensive weddings.

My FH and I live together, we bought our house back in November! So that helped or a lot! Our budget is between 25-30k but that includes, my dress, his rentals, venue of 120-130 people (with ceremony, food, 5hour premium open bar, and a maitre D) DJ, and photographer!

You should spend what you can afford. Not more. So your budget is a very personal thing.

The best wedding I ever attended cost about 100.00 dollars. They are still happily married over 20 years. My Mom and Daddy spent nothing they were married in a small church. They strayed married until his last breath. Over 40 years. It's not the budget but the LOVE that truly matters 💞💞💞

Exactly! Why break the bank and pay more than you can and start your marriage in debt?

It really just depends on what you're comfortable spending and can afford to pay. My FH and I could technically do a $40k wedding out of pocket right now, but we are coming in at right under $12k and plan to keep it there (we went up from our initial $8k). We are having 85 of our closest family and friends there in SoCal.

I think this answer is different for every person. Too much for one person may be the same as too little for another person. I think whatever you spend, should not cause you to go into debt or cause any immense stress on other areas in your life. For some people that's $1,000 and for some that's $100,000. Everyone is different! Congratulations!

For me I thinks it's stupid to go over 10k. I'm at about 6k for my wedding and it's not fancy but that's not the type of people we are.

My wedding was around 5k and I absolutely LOVED it. I would have felt silly spending anymore than that, but that's just me. Do what's best for you and your fiancé financially and DO NOT put yourself in debt.
