How much should I eat at the rehearsal dinner?

Elizabeth, on February 22, 2014 at 10:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

Let me preface this by saying I like to eat. But, our rehearsal dinner is at a brewery and we are ordering a bunch of pizzas off of their catering menu. So in theory I'll be eating pizza and drinking beer the night before I'm to put on my wedding dress. So, would it be weird if I ordered a separate, healthier meal that won't make me bloated? Pizza and beer is FH's kinda thing so it was important to me that he got what he liked.

I don't think it would be weird at all. I would order a healthier meal if I was in your shoes

Never thought of that! I guess that depends on how much wiggle room you have in your dress and how much self control you have if there is tons of pizza around. If you're worried about it, I don't think ordering something different is weird. Good luck!

If it makes you uncomfortable to order something else, you could eat a healthy meal before the rehearsal, so when the dinner comes around, you aren't too hungry and can just eat one slice. However, I don't think ordering something else is a big deal otherwise.

If you notice that you're super bloated or you feel crappy the morning after eating some pizza and drinking some beer, then yeah, I'd opt for something that doesn't make you feel crappy. However otherwise, my advice is, "Eat something delicious and eat until you are full, because hell yeah pizza."

I would say order like a salad or a healthy appetizer and have one slice of pizza and one beer. Beer makes me bloat like crazy. Maybe that day you could also take a diuretic like Diurex too just to help shed any extra water you might gain.

Our rehearsal dinner was at an Italian restaurant and I ate salad, bread, and raviolis. Then my BM and I ordered pizza around midnight because we were all a little tipsy and hungry post rehearsal dinner and drinking in the hotel room. Looking back, wow, can’t believe I did that, haha. I do not think it’d be weird to order something separate and healthier for yourself.

Well I dont plan on eating at my rehearsal dinner - I dont like the restaurant that my FMIL is so graciously offering to host the dinner at. I am just going to get a large salad and say I'm worried about my wedding dress not looking right.

FH and I initially just wanted something low key like pizza and beer but FMIL is insisting she host the rehearsal dinner.

So, definitely order what you want to eat - no one is going to even notice.

I think you can order something different if the food is being served to guests. If it's buffet style, people may think it's interesting. Could you do a large salad with the pizza for people who want a healthier option and just eat that?

I would totally order a salad with some grilled chicken. Eat something you know will sit well and is easy to sleep on. A dinner of pizza and beer and giving me a tummy ache thinking about.

I would be totally sad if I was eating leaves and everyone was eating delicious pizza. Like everyone else said though it's your pre-day day so eat whatever you want!

And honestly, i would be more worried about the beer because of the swelling and dehydration from the alcohol . 2 to 3 pieces of pizza isn't gonna hurt you..

I would not even worry about it if your dress is not tight. We are having Mexican food for our the night before but I probable will not eat much because I will be worked up about the wedding being the next day.

I'd skip the beer and have wine instead...beer makes me sick AND bloat like crazy. A few slices of pizza will be okay. Drink a lot of water with it as well (try to do a glass of water to each drink).

We did a heavy apps rehearsal and I ate everything...and drank a ton of wine. Dress still fit!

I seriously wouldn't worry about eating pizza before. We had pizza and pasta provided by the local pizza place and I ate both. I didn't even touch the salad and I still looked good on my wedding day. One night isn't going to kill you. If you aren't offering that healthier option to everyone else, I think it would be rude to order it for yourself. However if it's open to everyone then just eat what you feel like eating

Lol - we had catered barbecue at our rehearsal dinner and you better believe I ate what I wanted lol I ate a cider donut that evening while packing them up as our favors. Then my cousins staying down the hall ordered pizza and breadsticks around 1 am and I had some of that hahaha It was fine! You'll probably make up for it the next day when you don't eat as much as you really would like to Smiley winking

Don't hate me-- but I think it's bad hosting to eat something different than what you are offering your guests. I'd add a big garden salad to your catering order, that way everyone has the same choices/options as you. Take a big helping for yourself, and stick to one or two slices of pizza.

Eat something beforehand that fills you up, so you can enjoy a slice with a drink that night. Also, do not feel pressured to eat the same thing as everyone else. You could have a medical issue, or an allergy, or simply an abhorrence of a particular food item!
