How Much Prep for the First Dance?

Michael, on August 3, 2022 at 7:37 PM

What are couples doing for their first dance? Or are you just skipping that? Has anyone gotten their fiance to a dance practice or even more for a choreographed dance? I would like it to be a little more than an impromptu dance.

Duly note. I’m on the mobile app. I’ve yet to figure out how to edit posts on it. 😅

We are not professional dancers and we don’t want a hugely choreographed dance where we have to focus the entire time on remembering steps and feel completely unnatural. We may browse YouTube for some dance moves to add in but nothing fancy or elaborate. We may also end up doing a standard sway in the moment.

    Michelle,

that is a good point. maybe a choreographed dance made to look more natural rather than showy. It should be sentimental and nice, but probably not much more.

I'm most nervous about the times I'll stand out most. I'm more of an introvert.

Gotcha. My fiancé is the exact same way. Unfortunately as the bride attention is going to be on you regardless, but all anyone is going to think or say during that time is how beautiful you are, how amazing your dress is, how cute you both are, and well wishes whether you do a simple or elaborate 1st dance it’ll be perfect for you and that’s all that matters. 🥰

I've not seen a choreographed first dance, but my friend had a choreographed wedding party dance. And it wasn't actually on purpose either. They played Kung Fu Fighting and all the karate school students and teachers went up there and went through forms in synch. It was so cool lol.

That sounds cool. I've seen the prepared dances by the bridesmaids or the groomsmen --sometimes for the bride. Those seem fun -- if you have people that are able to do that. We see some cultures where this is more typical. We don't have so many dancers in our crowd. lol.

Some of these dance videos show the bride looking lovingly toward the groom. This can be natural or get forgotten in all the pressure. One woman was reminding her fiancé to do the same -- probably instead of staring into empty space.

I would love to do a traditional dance, but my fiancée has no rhythm and two left feet.😅 We are just going to sway to our song. My father was going to do a more traditional dance with me, but we found out he has two aneurysms so that’s out too. 😢

We are doing a first dance song that my FH choose for us. He said that the song that he choose saids all how he feels about me. I'm teary eyed just thinking about. But we are supposed to turn it into a upbeat song after. But I will have to ask him

That is wonderful that he has a song planned. Sounds very sentimental. And great to also have the upbeat song as part of it.

Maybe there are some choreographed dances for a partner with two left feet. The dance should work out one way or another. Hope you Dad can enjoy the ceremony.
