How much $$ per head on Rehearsal Dinner?

Maui Bride, on October 19, 2010 at 4:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I am starting to research restaurants on Maui in Lahaina for our rehearsal dinner and am *big surprise* shocked by the prices. I know it will be more expensive because it's Hawaii but $70 dollars a head for a salad, entrée, dessert, and juice or coffee seems pretty crazy to me. btw we are drinkers sooo you can round that 70 up to 100 per person which is just too much oh and that doesn't include tax or gratuity.

-

-How much did/are you planning on spending per head on your rehearsal dinner?

-What did it include?

-

I'd appreciate any input!

Wow $100 a head would be super pricey to me, however I thought $50 a head was too, lol. I am having a morning breakfast reception due to the dinner prices here in Vegas. We're only paying $18 a head.

We just ordered a bunch of pizzas delivered to the house where we and all the guests were staying, so we're probably talking less than $10 a head. We were all able to hang out with each other, with no pressure to leave at the end of the meal, and it was a lot of fun. But it was a relatively nontraditional rehearsal dinner. (Then again, since there was no actual rehearsal, I'm not sure what is traditional.)

WOW 100.00 a head is a bit much...but then again you are in hawaii. I am in Vegas and we went to TGIF and it was about 13-14.00 per head, it really wasnt all that bad, that included drinks.

    Good luck with your search

Ours was about $45 each incl. tax and tip with no drinkers-- for salad, entree, and dessert in a smaller city filled with restaurants to choose from.....

    .

something fast and quick but tasty would have been a better approach for us.

i guess since yours is a destination wedding, you can't do budget...

but of course the main event is the next day, right? so take time and energy into consideration too.........

can you get it catered...is that cheaper? or if you just offer a variety of small dishes...and just focus on the alcohol or bring in your own.........there is a costco on maui........

We are having a fall DW wedding in Vermont, and have some wiggle room at the inn. In lieu of a rehearsal dinner, we are having a welcome dinner, for 50 people(and the welcome bags). I am doing my own cooking....comfort foods....baked mac and cheese; chili; italian wedding soup; roast beef and gravy for sandwiches; roast turkey in gravy for sandwiches; hot chocolate, hot apple cider, ginger snaps and smores around the campfire.

Since Hawaii is so pricey, and basically all guests are invited to the rehearsal dinner, have you considered going hors deorves and cocktails only? That price is a bit on the huge OUCH side.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback guys! I don't know what we are going to do because 100 per person is just not possible... we are arguing with 100 per person for the wedding food! lol - sigh... I guess I'll just keep looking! Maybe we can just have a picnic or something at a local beach..... maybe even have that catered... something to think about....

@ JJ we are buying alcohol for our wedding from Costco! LOVE Costco! Smiley smile

    Good thinking, Sydney! Smiley smile

We bought ours there too and just had a variety of hard liquors and some good reds and whites even (although not as popular), and a nice selection of bottled beers and people were so happy! They still talk about the selection and quantity of alcohol and half were not drinkers. LOL

Can you go to a location a bit out of town. They know you are tourists and they jack up the price in Lahaina. There are places that would work but you would all have to drive there. Look for places that are where the locals eat. At $100 a person you could do a luau instead and that has the entertainment with it. I like the pizza idea also. There are a bunch of pizza parlors you could probably use. Good Luck.

I think you may be going about this backwards. Instead of saying "what shoudl I spend?" try saying "my budget is $1000". If you call around, I think you will find that places will be willing to put together a set menu for the price that you are willing to spend. That will be much easier than trying to adjust your budget to them. Most restaurants will have some sort of "catering" options that should be able to be tailored to your price range.

My rehearsal dinner on the big island will be a barbecue and pool party at the rental house. Food and Primo beer from Costco.

I was thinking the same thing Analy. FH Dad, Step-mom and mom are paying for it so I need to find out how much they want to spend and figure it out from there.

@ Amy - yay another Hawaii bride! Are you from Hawaii or doing a DW?

We live in Australia now. FH has family in Hawaii. We will be married on the Big Island in February. We were both raised in California. We love the islands and I can hardly wait to see my family. I really miss them.

$5.00 pp. I am doing party bags which will have candy, ramen noodles, and a thank you letter. I will give these out right after the reception. As much as we are spending on the dinner the next day, I refuse to spend anymore.
